Dems to pick up another Senate seat in Virginia: Warner is Running

I've been called retarded before so it is quite possible.

I am quite aware California sent 19 Republican Congressmen to D.C. but if you check the map not one is from the nine county's that make up the Bay Area which is what I said. Richard Pombo from Tracy was the only one but he lost in '06.

I'm not sure how that is an oversimplification or generality, it is a fact. And it is a fact that there is not an elected Republican in the city of San Francisco.

And it is a fact that Arnold is the only statewide elected Republican.

I'll accept the retarded label but please tell me where I am wrong here.

I apologize. As I posted afterwards I misread your comments to imply that California elected absolutely no Republicans. It was my misunderstanding.

I thought that you were one of the many posters who frequent boards armed with such keen political insights as "CALIFORNIA IS SO BLUE!" and "EVERYONE IN ALABAMA VOTES REPUBLICAN!"

As I stated, I misread your post and I apologize for my unneccessary attack.

DigitalDave is cool though. He has a sense of humor, and isn't wound tightly. Excellent indications that by the time he's 30 he will be a liberal.

Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.

-Winston Churchill

I've never seen that quote before, where'd you get it? Wow, that must be obscure. Maybe I will rethink my position on Libertarianism.

I don't give two damns if you do.

I just thought it was an appropriate quote. And yes it is very common.

Honestly seeing the logic you employ in your defense of liberalism, I don't think I would want you as a libertarian.

Much better for us to have you as an adversary than an ally.

Why is it an appropriate quote? Have you ever thought about what it means?

If being under 30 and being a conservative makes you heartless, what about being a conservative over 30, doesn't make you heartless?

The quote is stupid, meaningless, and self-contradictory. People pull it out and love to post it on message boards because they don't think about what it means. All they think is, Winston Churchill said it!

It never fails to make me laugh. See? Libertarians are funny!

I don't defend liberalism.

It needs no defense.

Do you feel that Libertarianism does need a defense?

Now, that wasn't funny at all.

Wasn't this thread hijacked, to demonstrate whether or not Libertarians could be jokey, or funny? :clink:

No worries, I understand what you were thinking. I'm not that bright but I do hope to add more to the conversation than just simplistic comments like you referenced above.

Gentoo leans libertarian, and with the exception of posters that strive purely for comedy like Charver and Rev, he is the funniest.

I've actually enjoyed reading your posts for some time now. I should have read more carefully before I assumed. Again I apologize.

Sorry, this quote is always attributed to Churchill, but it isn't his!

Some of us just don't stagnate with old age like the rest of you do!
We are forever young at heart and politics!

Damn! NeoCons have been fooling me for years, with that fake Churchhill quote, and I never thought to verify it.

And believe me...I verify almost everything a NeoCon says...that's why I was smart enough not to get fooled into support the Iraq War. ;)

It is used so often people don't question!

The phrase originated with Francois Guisot (1787-1874): "Not to be a republican at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head." It was revived by French Premier Georges Clemenceau (1841-1929): "Not to be a socialist at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head."

It's actually one of his more famous quotes. BUt it was from the 40's, and unless you give a shit about the world you wouldn't know about it.
