They also forgot that the border was closed during the pandemic for around 18 months, and then reopened when the CDC said it was safe. So migration was heavier for awhile. But I don't for one minute believe maga's exaggerations about the number.

Agreed, but drones, satellites and blimps with look-down radar can also use thermal imaging to see people in the deserts and mountains. Getting out to them is another matter. Mainly they are looking for smugglers, not some woman and her baby.
While human eyes reviewing the images is time-consuming, computers programmed to look for movement can simplify the process. AI is certain to help with this too.
