Did Missing Malaysia flight DISINTEGRATE at 35,000 feet?

Debris from the missing Boeing 777 flight is believed to have been found off Vietnam as Interpol investigates whether up to four passengers boarded the plane using stolen passports. A Vietnamese search team has found what they believe is part of a door and an airplane's tail in the first major breakthrough in the hunt for missing aircraft. The suspected fragments have been located around 50 miles from south-west of Tho Chu Island, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Investigators are narrowing the focus of their enquiries on the possibility that the plane disintegrated in mid-flight, a senior source said on Sunday. 'The fact that we are unable to find any debris so far appears to indicate that the aircraft is likely to have disintegrated at around 35,000 feet,' said the source, who is involved in the investigations in Malaysia.

It comes as Interpol criticised Thailand's lax airport security after it emerged at least two passengers boarded the Malaysia Airlines flight MH307 with stolen passports - giving rise to the possibility that the missing 239 passengers are victims of a terrorist attack.

Any terrorists claiming credit ? If not its a failure in that respect. Isnt this the Dreamliner that has had so many problems ? Could possibly have dis integrated all by itself. And who would want desperatly to cover that up ?

No, it is a 777 which has been around for 20 years and has a very good safety record.

The problem with it having disintegrated at 35,000 ft is that there would have been a very large debris field and given the degree of scrutiny that probably would have been found by now. The problem with an sort of sudden descent from altitude would have left plenty of time for the pilots to have made a distress call. This is a serious mystery.

No, the 777 has had a remarkable safety record. There was an incident of a 777 losing engine power on approach to landing at London Heathrow but that plane landed safely, then there was last years crash of a 777 in San Francisco in which three teenagers died, one after landing by a fire truck that that crash was attributed to pilot error so the 777 has a very strong safety record.

THat 777 at Heathrow actually lost both engines whilst making final approach and all due to ice being formed in the fuel tanks and clogging some nozzles.

I must say, making an airliner at 30-40k feet completely disappear from radar coverage is quite a trick. I understand that the radius around the aircraft from sensors is only like 300 NM, and a good JSS type sensor can see out about 250 NM. On top of that, it would have been transmitting its Mode 3 A/C codes, which would have to been turned off, and then somehow the ETL would have to fail to go off in the event of a crash. If this aircraft was hijacked there should still have been decent primary radar coverage of the aircraft. It literally would have to fallen out of the sky, such as if someone detonated an explosive on board.

Looks like we can look forward to another 4 seasons of Lost...

The real scandal is that President Obama has not called it a terrorist attack yet.

IF he does not get out and call anything a terrorist attack within the first 45 min's, even if he does call it a terrorist attack within the first 45 min's, then they attack.

The reason you don't hear much about how he is handling the Ukraine situation is because they don't know what he is going to do yet, they are at least going to hold back until he does something before they attack!
