Did Missing Malaysia flight DISINTEGRATE at 35,000 feet?

US investigators think that Malaysian Airlines flight 370 remained airborne for four more hours after vanishing from its last recorded position - raising the startling prospect the plane could have been hijacked. Officials suspect that the plane flew for a total of five hours based on data automatically downloaded from the Boeing 777's Rolls Royce engines and sent back to the ground as part of a routine monitoring program. US counter-terrorism teams are now pursuing the astonishing possibility that the plane and its 239 passengers were diverted to an undisclosed location 'with the intention of using it later for another purpose'.

They link to the Wall St Journal which used to be a paper you could trust on straight news stuff, but since Murdoch took over, I don't know. I will wait till I see this in the NY Times, which has not published this theory as of this morning. That I can find. This is very sensational. I am very sad for the families who are going through a hell we can't imagine.

US military now say they believe missing Malaysian plane HAS crashed hundreds of miles away in the INDIAN Ocean and send Navy vessel to the area as last picture of doomed jet emerges


  • U.S. official quoted as saying there was 'indication' plane came down in Indian Ocean
  • Malaysian authorities have also expanded search westward towards India
  • Hishammuddin Hussein said reports claiming data sent from engines suggested the plane had kept flying for four hours were 'inaccurate'
  • However investigation sources say satellites received a signal from the plane after the last definite point of contact with authorities
  • Hussein said the possibility the plane did continue to fly for several more hours 'could not be ruled out'
  • Rolls-Royce, who made the plane's engines, reportedly did not receive any transmissions from the aircraft after it lost contact
  • He said China released images showing suspected debris 'by mistake'
  • Also insisted all maintenance checks on the plane 'were in order'

Officials 'convinced' two communications systems on missing jet were deliberately shut off 14-minutes apart as it emerges aircraft DID keep 'pinging' for hours after vanishing at 35,000 ft


  • Malaysian Airways flight MH370 went missing on Saturday morning carrying 239 passengers
  • Its last known position was above the South China Sea an hour into flying
  • U.S. official said two separate communication systems were shut down 'deliberately' shortly after take-off
  • Despite this, tracking signals or 'pings' were sent to British firms satellite from the plane for up to five further hours after it vanished
  • These pings show the plane's altitude, height and speed
  • According to US officials when the last ping was sent the plane was still flying at 35,000ft over water
  • Investigators have not revealed where the plane was last positioned
  • Flying at 35,000ft at its cruising speed the aircraft could have flown more than 2,500 miles from where it vanished
  • The White House has indicated the search will now concentrate in the Indian Ocean

Ah, so there was radar coverage somewhere. That's good. If the operating system has a playback, they should be able to locate the fade point of the aircraft, and then start analyzing the impact point, and the distance it would have drifted at this point.

It's unlikely that terrorists boarded the plane and did this without some signal reaching land from the passengers I think? I am thinking pilot here. This is very fucked up.
 
It looks like its clear there was a take over, and that the plane survived the initial takeover... the question becomes, where did it go, or did it simply crash after the takeover.

The world is a huge place and lots of it not covered by radar. Could a group of terrorists have built a landing strip in a remote place to steal a 777 for later use?

A landing strip at least 7000 ft long and and 300 ft wide?
