please list how he or the dems or repubs did or didn't. from what i've read and the bits i've seen, i didn't see much....

then again, did obama really want compromise or did he just want to make a political play before reconciliation, EG, bullshit the american people as usual....

"If we're unable to resolve differences over health care, we will need to move ahead on decisions," he said, alluding to using reconciliation, a controversial maneuver that prevents a GOP filibuster by requiring only 51 votes to pass legislation.

Obama added that if voters are unhappy with results, then "that's what elections are for."

I saw some of this this morning. Obama looked like a real asshole interrupting Republicans who had legitimate and technical arguments and interjecting at ever turn like he was a teacher in a classroom. The Democrats replies were all emotional pleas and red herrings. At one point Obama tried to get Biden to help him only to have Chia spout some nonsense so Obama cut him off.

I heard that it was going so bad for The One that MSNBC cut it off in favor of a bronze medal woman's hockey game.

Big win for the GOP today. :good4u:

Did you see when he said in his cocky manner, I AM THE PRESIDENT?

Did you see when he said in his cocky manner, I AM THE PRESIDENT?
Yeah, when he was explaining how he hadn't given even close to even time to hear ideas. They've spent the last three weeks behind closed doors and their arguments stank. Obama was pWned by Ryan.

I guess he took a page from this doofus's playbook.

YouTube- George Bush: "I am the Decider!"
Yeah, imagine how low he has stooped to actually emulate George W. Bush. It is also interesting that the Rs never had a supermajority in either house yet were capable of passing bills (unfortunately Bush appears to be far more successful at actually getting things done without, as Obama described circumventing that particular rule in 2005, circumventing the vision of the founders).

The Dems haven't been capable of passing any bills?

What I saw was obama sitting there with his head cocked back looking down his nose with a condescending grin on his big, purple lips as republicans tried to talk some sense into his arrogant, narcissistic, black ass.

I never did like this little shit from Kenya, but this display today completely solidified my disdain for him. He's no more Presidential than that greasy, fat ass, turd Mickey Moore.

Obama is a clown....he spoke 9 minutes longer than all Republicans combined....
Bi-partisanship my ass....Hes an arrogant fool....

i think the whole thing was staged for the holdout dems in the house and senate with the remote chance that the reps would come up with something usable

the reps stayed to a scripted message of lets scrap the health bill as it is and start over while going over talking points of their own

Can someone answer me why Congress is unwilling to make insurance portable; enact tort reform; regulate pre-existing conditions clauses; create a fund for the truly indigent; and tighten up all those leaky medicare drains?

If they had done this a year ago we'd know, at least in part, how it might work. These fixes require little to no new taxation and would easilly be acceptable to the majority of Americans.

I never did like this little shit from Kenya.

This is the true soul of the conservative movement: racism. This is why we need to round up all conservatives and pop a cap in their worthless heads. Conservatives are negative humanity.

money from the insurance companies

make it all single payer/not for profit or medicare for all

leaving doctors and hospitals free to accept paying clients that want to go an extra step

What, you think the 'Rats want to help people? :palm:

Not sure what you mean. If you are asking why Congress won't let insurers sell across state lines the problem is that there is a genuine concern that insurers will flock to a state with low regulations and sell shitty insurance everywhere, much like credit card companies flock to states that allow them to rip off consumers. However, the Senate bill that passed allowed for states to form insurance compacts allowing for states to join together and have insurers in one state sell to consumers in any of the other states within the compact. This was a compromise position that is designed to allow insurers to sell across state lines while avoiding a "race to the bottom."

enact tort reform

Why conservatives have a hard-on for tort reform is beyond me. It will not meaningfully reduce costs. However, the Senate bill has a provision that encourages states to develop new medical malpractice with Congress funding the most promising reforms. Also, Obama dangled tort reform as a carrot for Republican compromise a while back but the Republicans were unwilling to concede anything in return. That's not how compromise is supposed to work.

regulate pre-existing conditions clauses

You cannot do this effectively without an individual mandate. The problem that arises with insurers required to take anyone with a pre-existing condition is that it will cost insurers a lot more money. In turn, insurers will increase rates on everyone. In turn, more healthy people will forego coverage because of costs, leading to more costs increases, etc. . . The way to prevent this death spiral is to require healthy people to get coverage too, expanding the risk pool on both the not healthy side (those with pre-exisitng conditions) and the healthy side (people who right now don't have coverage because they don't think they need it). While it's (somewhat) easy to get people to agree to cover pre-existing conditions, getting people to agree to the individual mandate is extremely difficult.

create a fund for the truly indigent

This costs money that has to come from somewhere and if you adopt some of the other reforms this becomes unnecessary. Frankly, though, I think it entirely plausible that you could get rid of Medicare Advantage and the waste of money there to create such a fund. The Democrats have avoided this incremental approach, though, supporting instead a comprehensive approach that does a whole hell of a lot more. My sense is that incremental changes like creating a fund through Meidcare savings may be the type of incremental approach we will see if comprehensive reform is not feasible.

I would also add that the House and Senate bills did indeed provide for such funds for people with pre-existing conditions because the ban on pre-existing
conditions was not scheduled to kick in for five years or so.

; and tighten up all those leaky medicare drains?

This was provided for in the House and Senate bills but it is easier said than done, particularly because once anything is proposed that reduces Medicare spending the other side immediately jumps to fear-mongering with the old folks.
