A slight disagreement in that it would mean the Russian have full control of American voting. They don't.
Influence? Yes. This was true even in the 60s with the Soviet Union. Remember when hijackings of American and Western European airliners to Cuba and the Middle East were popular? The Soviets touted how they were superior because they never had that problem...which was partially true.
The Soviets would shoot down an airliner and cover up the deaths rather than reveal to the world they were weak. Additionally, since they controlled the media, as many Trumpers seek to do, they were free to spin whatever lies they wanted.
The fact remains that Free societies are more vulnerable to disinformation than authoritarian societies. Another reason why the Trumpers love Nazis and other authoritarians. They want full control over Americans to force all Americans to think, believe and do as dictated. I disagree with authoritarians and those who support them.

The Russians bought I believe 22 ads on Facebook. Roughly half were for Hillary and half for Trump.
I don't think they were trying to influence the election for a specific outcome but rather researching how much they could influence one.
