Does the House GOP have any understanding of the debt ceiling and its consequences?

These same hypocrites gladly raised the debt ceiling twice for their Messiah even while he was setting new records adding over eight trillion to the debt in only four years

I really think these clowns have zero understanding of what the debt ceiling actually is, and the consequences to the country if it is not passed. From their perspective, it is only a tool they can use politically regardless of the harm it can cause the economy and all Americans, actually, the way they look at it, any resulting damage is good, more ammo for 2024. Not quite what the Founders had in mind

It is the only leverage they have, so they are threatening with it. They will have to cave. If they don't they will end up looking worse than they already do. No way they are getting the middle in support of this. All they are doing is appeasing to extremists. Their problem is that there simply are not enough extremists in the country to grow their support. They have reached the limit of their limited power.

They are in no position to demand the Senate do anything.

They need to give it up and cave. It is only a matter of time and increasingly dire warnings of what happens if they do not do their job.

"The validity of the American debt shall not be questioned."

If they refuse to do what needs to be done the president should act to secure the American debt. Let the SCOTUS decide if need be. And they can use the above quoted 14th Amendment as a guide for how to decide. I would be surprised of the SCOTUS thinks they have a case. It was legislated that we pay for these things. The Constitution says we shall.
