You seem to forget that I go to Northern Ireland regularly and both my parents came from Ireland.

The Official IRA gave up fighting in 1970 which was when the Provisional IRA was formed. When the British Army went to NI in 1969 they were welcomed with open arms by the Catholics, this really pissed off the PIRA who then went out of their way to turn the populace against the soldiers.
