Donald Trump’s Deportation Plan Causes ‘Panic’ Among Farmers who can’t find enough workers

This is funny. Look at the FAFO ! Good luck getting Kyle and Brad to pick the fruit in the sun all day with no breaks and water for min wage. It's not going to happen.
The big farmers down around the MAR, FLA area do not pay their workers by the hour they pay them by how much they pick , it is so much a bushel , the worker can take all the breaks they want if they don't produce they don't get as much pay.
They have lunch breaks and all the water they want.
My friends own most of the farms in the area and have since just after WWII and they have certain ones they know will really work so when they send their bus in the morning they look for them and if one of the other farmers got the good ones they get what is left so they are there picking up the workers early and I have seen some times their buses show up and are sitting there and the workers can choose who they want to work for that day, all the farmers I know down there treat their workers very good.

Well over a decade ago when Republiclowns launched one of their attacks on immigration and reduced the number of workers available to do agricultural labor (field hands) I read an article in Forbes Magazine about farmers in Washington state having to choose between which crops they'd harvest and which ones they'd have let rot on the ground.

When asked why they couldn't hire Americans at a good wage to do the work, the answer then was the same as it was on the news a couple of nights ago.... Americans just will not do that kind of work at any wage. Offer them $30 per hour and they still wouldn't do it. The ones who respond to the ads work a half a day then haul ass by lunch without even picking up their pay.

The way these things usually work is that right-wingers make a lot of noise about deporting brown people who talk funny just to fire up the morons for an election then after they get in office, lobbyists for industries which use immigrant labor convince them to back off.
Well again most farmers I know pay their workers by how much they pick, so much a bushel for say Tomatoes ,
NOT on dollars per hour.
If it was so much an hour people get lazy and wouldn't pick as much as they do by the amount they pick.

I don't think many of them do that anymore because of minimum wage and overtime law requirements, which vary from state to state. .

I can't say for sure but the last I knew they did , from what I know if they don't pick enough to be more then what the min wage is the farmer makes it up and that picker won't be back the next day.
