Donald Trump’s transition team seeks to pull US out of WHO ‘on day one’

They also seek to usurp our sovereignty.
Not so much our sovereignty, because the WHO basically thinks we can take care of ourselves, but the WHO definitely usurps a lot of other countries sovereignty. They are vaccinating children in Afghanistan and places like that, whether the local governments want it or not.

If we want to rid the world of Polio, we need to rid the entire world of Polio, not just the parts of the world that have reasonable functioning governments.

We don't need a global political bureaucracy to accomplish this. And you're wrong about that anyways.

We do need a global bureaucracy to end diseases like Smallpox, and Polio. There needs to be a coordinated effort that is done everywhere at once. The WHO is an absolutely tiny bureaucracy, compared to its mission, but enough to do this task.

I would like to see a global survey of what viruses are moving through humanity, and other species. We have diseases that we are only noticing when they start killing a lot of people, such a global survey would allow us to notice them decades earlier. We would have some idea what was happening before they mutated into pandemics.

Such a global survey would multiple the budget of the WHO by 20 times, but I believe it is worth the higher cost.
