My BA degree was in Behavioral Psychology. It was focused on studying why people do certain things and if their behavior could be modified to a better end such as making them better workers, soldiers, etc. I'm not nor have ever claimed to be a shrink, I'm not seeking to "help" anyone even though I'll offer guidance on what they should do. If they don't, it's their fucking problem, not mine.

That said, in general, it's irrational to try to rationalize with an irrational person. The person could be a spouse who is simply so pissed off it's best to wait until they cool down to discuss the problem (my best advice is say "Let's talk later" not "I'll wait until you fucking cool off because right now you are a flaming nut job.")

OTOH, for some people, their irrationality is a continuing medical condition. Nothing you say will help them or change them. They are irrational 24/7. INT/IBDa/gfm is one of those people as are Evemetro, Truth Detector, Expresslane, Teflon Don, Matt Dillon/Wolverine and a few others. Some people are simply mentally "off" a bit and can be rational at times. Some are retarded and restricted to a permanent narrow slice of life because they are incapable of seeing a wider view than what they see now.

Family members and other loved ones are worth the effort (fight) to help. Anonymous strangers on the Internet are not. They don't want help, they want to validate their irrational ideas on the internet. If 9 out of ten people tell them to fuck off but one says "YES!" then the nutjob is happy.
