Yes, in America being a Marxist is considered worse than being a pedophile. You are correct though - most of them have no idea what Marxism actually is. However, if a person read their rantings about Marxism, they would learn what Marxism isn't. So they do serve that purpose, albeit unwittingly.

Low, for so long, whites have made us uncomfortable about ourselves....who we are, what we look like. That changed, significantly, in the 60's, with the Black Power Movement, and adopting slogans like "I'm Black and I'm Proud" and "Black is Beautiful". A few of us even broke "the glass ceiling" in the 70's and 80's and became corporate, upwardly mobile and assimilated. Then there was the backlash during the Reagan Administration, the rise of the neo-cons, and Bush and Cheney's all-out war on people of color (i.e. Hurricane Katrina), prompting Kanye West to say on national television, "Bush doesn't care anything about black people". That sentiment holds true today. As a result, blacks largely identify as "black" or African-American....and "proudly'. Because it bites the butt of those on the right, who would rather group everyone as "Americans" (while not treating them as such), it removes the guilt and dilutes the self-imposed separation they feel, inherently, for persons of color. The presidency of Barack Obama, lifted the veil to reveal the ugly scar of racism and bigotry that was always there. But unlike vampires...these racists are not afraid of the sunlight or crucifixes....and they don't care what anyone thinks about it. Look around this very forum for proof.
