Don't Hand The Articles Of Impeachment Over For 100 Days

America will find a way to eradicate trumpism in a hurry or quickly complete its journey down history's toilet drain.
It's that simple.

That is indeed the problem. Trump isn't worth shit now, but trumpism - whatever you want to call it - is still lurking.

America needs a responsible conservative party. It hasn't had one for some time, and even less since the eruption of trumpism.

As a social democrat, even I would look forward to the return of human conservatives without thumbs on their feet as well their hands.
Serious conservatives didn't used to hang from trees.

Keep the articles back until after Jan 20, certainly. Let's see what his idiot thugs come up with.

Whatever it is, no doubt the Trump suckers here will approve it.
Ironically, if the Senate would have held a trial the first time, Pence would probably have been re elected as POTUS in November. McConnell screwed the pooch.

Impeaching someone who is already gone is an extraconstitutional political stunt that weakens the nation.

An impeachment trial decides two things: whether the accused should be removed from office, and whether the accused should be banned from office. While the first issue will no longer be important after January 20th, the second will still be. It is completely constitutional to have the Senate decide the second issue.

And Republican Senators will be very interested in banning trump from office. If trump runs in 2024, he will almost certainly win the nomination, and lose the general election. If Republicans can ban him from office... They have a much better chance of winning.

What might happen is that Republicans would not show up to vote on the impeachment trial. They only need two thirds of the Senators voting to ban trump from office. If 25 Republicans decide to go on vacation that day...

In my reading of the Constitution once the office has been vacated Congress has no authority to impeach, or hold a trial, or to levy penalties.

Can President Trump be impeached after he leaves office?

trump has already been impeached, so that is not the question. The question is whether trump can be tried after leaving office. The question of banning would still be open.

The Empire says Thanks!

Nope. It strengthened the nation showing nobody is above that law. Trump has been bragging about being above the law. He is a mafia chief who got hit by justice. Without the powers he misused, he is vulnerable to the law again.
