Not in a decade, and while I agree with your princible I think it's retarded to leave billions of our own barrells of oil untapped.

You don't have to leave them untapped, there are uses for oil other than cars and electricity. It is a truth that only 40% of the oil used in the US is burned in cars.
 
But it is better to use the rest of the worlds oil first so our oil will be worth more when the oil companies finally drill the leases they have been sitting on for years.

And I thought you were a business type and pro big oil?
 
Let's not forget that 70% of our oil comes from Canada and a sizable chunk comes from Venezuela. We don't really have a problem with Mideast oil importation (most other developed countries do, plus it sets the price for the whole world), and I think foreign oil from Canada is not really a huge concern of all foreign countries that could be supplying it.

The issue is keeping costs down and gradually weaning ourselves off, starting with the Mideast, then Venezuela, and then eventually oil as a source.
