Drill Baby Drill

anyway, back to the thread before usgaydom obsesses over this for another hundreds posts

the rigs right off santa barbara coast do not produce of anything of real value, so they should be taken down.

i know that, hence why i think the 15 or so rigs within site and a few miles of the coastlien are pointless

but thanks for the heads up...btw, do you think we really need those rigs so close?

I don't know the details... do they produce OIL? If so, I would say, yes... we need them! They are producing OIL, and we need OIL! If they are just sitting there cluttering up the shoreline, then no... we don't need them. Also, if the people of Santa Monica don't want them, they shouldn't be there, but that should be up to the people to decide.

I just mainly wanted to point out that most offshore drilling happens far away from the scenic view of the coastline, you don't even know they are out there.

they are in santa BARBARA, not monica....you're thinking of some other stain on our country

so if they are producing .00001 percent of the this country's oil, then leave them up? despite ruining this great country's coastline?

thanks. nigel gets his facts wrong so often....

Try again:

WASHINGTON — Democrats have decided to allow a quarter-century ban on drilling for oil off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to expire next week, conceding defeat in a months-long battle with the White House and Republicans set off by $4 a gallon gasoline prices this summer.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., told reporters Tuesday that a provision continuing the moratorium will be dropped this year from a stopgap spending bill to keep the government running after Congress recesses for the election.

Those fields in the santa barbara channel produce a butt load of oil. I think it might be the most prolific oil producing region in california.

Those companies hold legal, federal leases that they paid for. While I'm totally down with sticking it to corporate whitey, I'm not groovy with general lawlessness. I'd let them suck those fields dry, abide by the legal terms of the lease, and then tell them to get fucked when they beg for more leases on our awesome and pristine central coast.

Sorry.... Santa Whatever... it's all Wacko California to me.

I don't care how much percentage of oil they are producing, if they are producing one barrel, that is one less we have to buy from the Saudi's in my opinion. But let's go back to what else I said, if the people of Santa Barbara don't want the rigs out there, they should be able to vote on it and decided to have them removed. You will see here, I am not being a Fascist right-wing zealot who wishes to cram my will down your throat, I am being quite pragmatic and saying, if the people don't want it, so be it!

Like I said, I don't know the particulars... maybe Santa Barbara gets city revenue from the rigs? Maybe the money is needed to keep their city solvent and prevent them from filing bankruptcy like most of the rest of California? I don't know! Maybe the people of Santa Barbara have considered the options and they don't mind putting up with a few blips on the horizon out there, to generate their revenue to operate the city instead of more taxation? Again, I don't know! My take is, it should be left up to the people of Santa Barbara to decide.... do you have a problem with that stance?

as i said...compared to the overall oil production, they produce next to nothing....once again, your hypocrisy shows itself

had this been a bush thing, you would have railed against it, now, you're doing everything you can to defend oil rigs.....hack

Sheesh, maybe Usfreedom, Threedee, topspin, and Maineman are right....there's something wrong with you, Mr. Rage-aholic, spaz man.

I've never said oil rigs off santa barbara should be ripped down, and neither Obama or Bush has ever said that either. What the f? You're projecting your hackism onto others. Enjoy the rage fest, I'm going to have to cut you loose for now....

If the people don't want it, they shouldn't have it! That's what! Not that hard, is it?

I don't know that I buy the entire coastline within eye-shot of Santa Barbara, is "federally controlled" waters. I would think, at worst, the State of California has a say in it. I couldn't find much online about this, other than some "fish rights" groups who are opposed to removing the idle rigs because fish breed there now.... it's a habitat, and as such, they are seeking to have it 'protected.' So it looks like the people are kinda split on the issue, some don't want them, some do want them, and some want to protect the fishies.

Once again Ma'am, your ability to understand cognitive thought is sorely lacking.

What you consider to be a "whine", is in truth a form of amusement.

In esence: I'm laughing at you and not with you. :cof1:

didn't think you could actually defend your hypocrisy....so you have to resort to other people's opinions to make yourself look like you're not a hypocrite...

how sad

tell you what.... when the people of Santa Barbara stop using oil, then they can bitch about an oil field being tapped on their coast.
