Economists agree: Trump, not Obama, gets credit for economy

Who deserves credit for the booming economy? This is not a petty argument. How voters answer the question could well determine whether Democrats retake the House of Representatives come November.

Trump and Obama (and their admirers) are slugging it out, both claiming that it is their policies that have led to the ongoing economic expansion, steady job growth and higher stock prices.

Happily for President Trump, the pros agree with him. A recent survey of economists suggest it is President Trump, and not Obama, who should be taking a bow.

The Wall Street Journal asked 68 business, financial and academic economists who was responsible for the strengthening of the economy, and most “suggested Mr. Trump’s election deserves at least some credit” for the upturn.

A majority said the president had been “somewhat” or “strongly” positive for job creation, gross domestic product growth and the rising stock market.

The pros cite the White House’s push for lighter regulation and the recent tax bill as critical to a pro-growth environment; more than 90 percent of the group thought the tax bill would boost GDP expansion over the next two years.

Have to always question an opinion piece from a partisan website that cites a poll from another source that is inaccessible

Not questioning the "Hill" directly, but without the source in an opinion piece it is unknown if the results were framed to support the author's point of view

And the real truth is that the economy recovery since 2010 is really the work of the Federal Reserve

He hasn't been in there enough to effect much of anything. Are you really saying ahhh to a random survey? My guess is you probably poo poo them when they present something you don't like. It doesn't take too much of a brain to know he isn't deserving of any credit. He hasn't been around long enough, and almost nothing he's tried for has gone through, or been a success. So what did he do to change anything? Haven't you heard of not counting your chickens before they're hatched? Bragging about this just makes you look desperate , and stupid. Especially considering the similar successes in Canada, under liberal leadership. All most you rightists do is push pride anymore. Calm down, because no one gives a shit about arrogant, and pointless bragging about a game, after one period.

Taking this a little personal aren't you? I don't give two sh*ts who gets credit, you can thank the Fed really, but the "animal spirits" have been unleashed and that is on Trump. (whether you like that or not is up to you)

record breaking stock market performance, numerous times we have been +4% GDP in various quarters, all after predictions of doom and gloom from all liberals. Liberals were 100% on trump and his economic performance. Why should we listen to you now?

Here is what liberals used to say about the trump economy, and were wrong every step of the way. Now they want to pretend they know what the fuck they are talking about:

Because you haven't defended your own post, we all know the numbers, now you show us how they are all directly the results of the work of this President

Don't bother you can't, economic indicators aren't reset to zero every time a new President takes office, this President inherited an economy on the upswing, and considering where it was in 2009, that along is a major accomplishment

Yes, I’m quite happy with the stock market. I hope it lasts forever.

I hope Dude made another million or two.

I don't think we've hit 4%GDP growth yet..we did climb over 8000points on the Dow since the election.
that's an astounding 40% gain!!
we're waiting for last quarter GDP numbers..3% would be back before the recession ( 3 consecutive quarters)

^ bingo. that's not any Obama economy

What "pros?" Hopefully your not citing the "pros" from the initial topic post, you have no idea who they are or exactly what they said, the source post is inaccessible

beats me. you know what they say about economists.."on the other hand"
but this GDP uptick didn't come from an Obama economy. Obama chugged along at the 1-2% gain.

Deregulation has been key, it stops strangulation from regs, and Tax reform along with tax cuts
can only boom more as we've been seeing

You think it's a major accomplishment that eight years after the financial crisis the economy is in positive territory?

I don't really care, but blowhards bragging pointlessly about stuff, has an adverse effect on my mind. It's like part of the intellectual mind screams to be put out of it's misery. Considering all my ailments at the moment, I feel as though I handled it pretty well. The arrogance in this country drives me nuts. Why brag much at all, let alone about something so pointless?
