Rush Limbaugh is among the few celebrities who have publicly admitted to experiencing a sudden hearing loss. In his job as talk show host, he has used a Teleprompter and staff assistance to answer callers.

Limbaugh's experience with sudden hearing loss is not unique. In his case, it was due to autoimmune inner ear disease. Autoimmune inner ear disease in itself is not that rare; several people have posted on the forum and e-mailed me describing symptoms of an autoimmune-related hearing loss.

A cochlear implant was the solution for Limbaugh, who reportedly can hear his program with it. He needed one because one ear was totally deaf, and the other one was nearly so.As someone who had already experienced hearing, he was a good implant candidate. The implant in his left ear restored some hearing, but the right ear is still deaf.

At the time he revealed his hearing loss publicly, Limbaugh stated that he was developing a "deaf voice." Speech therapy is a possible solution for a "deaf voice," which develops when a person can not hear themselves and can not hear high and low pitches.

False. This is an "established fact" only in the minds of the Kool Aid drinkers, and I'm surprised that you, as a scientist, have fallen for this.

Here, a nice HuffPost piece for your edification. Oxycontin is not linked to hearing loss by any sort of study or even a significant amount of incidental evidence. Those opioids that are even somewhat linked to hearing loss are linked (like Vicodin) to the Acetaminophen rather than the Opioid itself and EXTREMELY rare even in those cases, so rare that it is not conclusive that there is even a connection, let alone any "established fact" that opioids cause any sort of hearing loss or contribute even minutely to autoimmune inner ear disease.

This is a case of the Urban Legend becoming "established fact" in the minds of people regardless of any evidence by repetition rather than information.

Now. Are we going to have some sort of "backfire" or whatever on this, or will you help to dispel that myth?

That might be equitable if Rush put out ads in support of some GOP legislation that might, after zillions of years of research, bring a resolution to his deafness, and while doing it removed the outside portion of his cochlear implant so that his deafness was obviously more pronounced.

Otherwise this is whining.

When MJ Fox took extra medication and then put his illness on display for political purposes he opened himself to that criticism.

Of course I really don't care if Ed makes fun of Rush's deafness and I doubt not that 60 Million dollar contracts tend to make it so such criticism falls on "deaf" ears... ;)

Only a complete asshole like Limbaugh would criticize MJ Fox for simply showing people just what is happening to him....openly acknowledging that his medication is a control, but not a cure. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Limbaugh was wrong, the people who support, excuse or justify his BS are wrong.
 
If Fox didn't want to take any heat, he should of kept his self out of the race...

the Democrats are famous for using children and the disabled in ads as a way to shut people up from criticizing them....then if they do they scream how DARE THEY..

The problem was he didn't "just simply show" he exaggerated. Rush Limbaugh criticized him for the exaggeration, not for the disease.

Ahhh, and who says he "exaggerated"? What is their criteria for judgement? What is their proof? The man said he abstained from meds for a period of time to demonstrate what's happening to him. If he admitted to "exaggerating", then Limbaugh would have a point.
 
what more proof do you need..
when he on his medication he can act in movies, make TV shows, and lead a fairly normal life when he walks down the red carpet with his family..

yet in this ad he made???
