There is a reason that the Constitution suggests budgets, and that mature adults use budgets. Every time you spend, there are opportunity costs. It is best not just to evaluate the merit of the spending in isolation, but also to evaluate the merits of the spending you will have to forego.

So yes, ice cream today is nice, but with a budget we realize we will not be able to pay for that car a year from now if we keep buying ice cream.

You really want to cut government spending Pass a bill that says EVERY BILL HAS to be a standalone bill. No pork can be added to a bill and then they will have to pass on if they are good for the American people and not just a pet project.

True. Well, he's got scant majorities in both houses; let's see how this plays out. He started his previous Corruption Tour with the same majorities. The only thing they managed to accomplish was to make the rich richer with his tax cuts for the zillionaires. That helped to put us into a recession, btw, even before the pandemic sent the world into a downward spiral.
