Evolution controversy erupts

The idea that there were several different human species walking the Earth two million years ago has been dealt a blow.

Instead, scientists say early human fossils found in Africa and Eurasia may have been part of the same species.

Writing in Science, the team says that Homo habilis, Homo rudolfensis and Homo erectus are all part of a single evolving lineage that led to modern humans.

The operative word here being "may"...still, some very interesting stuff. Although the evidence that multiple hominid species existed several million years ago I've always felt that the substantial commonality, anatomically speaking, of the gens humanis is a strong indicator that we evolved from a single direct line over a relatively short geological time period. I think that the fossil record has been a strong indicator that human evolution evolved along the lines of punctuated equilibrium.

the natural differences between individuals.

think of it as that.

I have know modern humans who looked so different from each other that some "alien" could mistake them for separate beings.

vive la diffrance

have to agree....there's a fellow in church with a sloping forehead that could easily pass for a neanderthal.......

The find of the 1.8 million year old skull sure causes some problems for the cultist who try to twist the bible to support an argument that Noah's flood was local and happened when all humans lived in the same location. :)

And, despite the controversy within the scientific ranks, this is a big deal. With the newer and more complete skulls, we are able to see more commonalities than differences.

This is actually a big discovery.
good analysis, and this doesn't change evolutionary theorem, just fills in more data points
