Ex green beret shot dead by 4 yr old son

No, not just wealthy people carry and own guns in California.
in cities like LA, santa monica, san diego, it is up to the county sheriffs who gets to carry a concealed weapon. I guarantee you that in all but the most rural counties, only the wealthy and politically connected get concealed licenses. I've been working with calguns foundation for years trying to fix it.

When voting kills people, I'll be happy to require background checks.
so, like we've been saying, some rights are more important than others to you. why can't you support ALL rights, 100% like myself and some others??

NRA has pushed congress to ban CDC from investigating causes of gun violence. Without the knowledge, it's hard to make laws.
[citation needed] I'm not an NRA fan by any stretch of the imagination, but i've not heard this before.

Technical refinements - to get a car to move, you have to have a key; you have to unlock the door; you have to put the key in the ignition; you have have to start it; you have to move the gear shift from park to drive or reverse (and with a manual transmission, you have to use the clutch). Do kids sometimes still get in and get cars moving? Yes, but it's pretty rare.
fine. don't exempt law enforcement from the same refinements and maybe we can talk.

Harsher punishments? really? as a so-called-responsible-gun-owner you don't think people who misuse their guns should be punished? funny.
did I say that? no. I said don't exempt law enforcement personnel from the same harsh punishments you would require us mere civilians to incur.

Guess you have very little faith in the ingenuity of the American inventor.

I think you have too much faith in imaginary bullshit. This is as dumb as when Zappa wanted to install magnets in school ceilings to divert bullet trajectories.

And so the lowly demi-god Damocles, from his lowest of all low berths in the depths of juvenile posting hell, see "guns" and "ban" in the same post and is called to duty!

His eyes turn red, his face green with pustules, his head spins around three times and he spits out pea soup Linda-blairish and he says "This must not stand! I must heap abuse and divert the topic and not respond to the issues raised"!

Again he spins his head and says "Nay rather than looking at any reasonable ideas I must squash them by flinging my keyboard mightily around the room because my master, the NRA, demands regular sacrifices of stupid people with guns"

And so he rushes...and so he oozes off to write yet another flame-filled irrelevant post on yet another irrelevant message board and, having posted his missive (childish, off-topic, stupid) he slinks back into the lowest depths and looks around for some other straw dragon to burn and flay and pillage.

And he continues, in his limited understanding, in his den of filth, in his mushroom pit of irrelevance, to wonder why people say pro-gun people don't know how to debate the issue.....

LOL. I like you, you are at least funny while you try to blather a wall of text to disguise your inability to reason or even to argue the point without words that have been fed to you by others. The hypocrisy notwithstanding, you have genuinely demonstrated that you care nothing about the death of others through irresponsibility, so long as it is something you want to use.

I hope one day you will be able to think a bit, and through introspection may understand the hypocrisy and childishness of an appeal to emotion argument that is so easily demonstrated fallacious.

why can't you answer the question then? why should cops get more leeway on mistakes when they've had extensive training to not make those mistakes?

Because guess what?

Mistakes HAPPEN!

Despite the best training in the world, sometimes mistakes are going to happen.

We pay police officers to charge heroically into situations you and I couldn't possibly handle and to intervene, defuse and bring the potentially deadly situation to a mutually beneficial resolution...but guess what?

SOMETIMES things don't go according to plan.

You want the police to clean up the worst parts of society, but you refuse to give them any leeway when things don't go absolutely perfect.

this is a totally bullshit assumption on your part. YOU have ZERO idea who is and is not capable of handling potentially deadly situations and it's complete FOLLY to believe that just because someone is wearing a badge makes them capable of being a hero or handling said situation.

You want the police to clean up the worst parts of society, but you refuse to give them any leeway when things don't go absolutely perfect.
no, YOU want them to because you are not capable of doing it yourself, therefore you project your own cowardice upon everyone else that they can't as well. The police are trained to handle those situations but you want no accountability when they fail.

Everyone take note...this is why we can't have an honest discussion about guns.

I NEVER said I wanted to install magnets in ceilings...I merely ASKED...off the top of my head mind you...IF it might be feasible, because I am not very knowledgeable about guns and I mistakenly thought asking one of this boards more gun knowledgeable posters might help.

Little did I know at the time they weren't really interested in debate, because the discussion quickly turned into a derisive, petty attack-fest with the gun nuts taking great joy in hurling their petty potshots at me and deriding my attempt at finding some sort of compromise.

So you see, the gun nuts can't even be honest about a discussion we tried to have months ago, let alone about the 2nd amendment itself.

I have just as good an idea who is and isn't capable as you do, and that bugs the hell out of you, don't it?

Oh, I'm sorry, how many hostage situations have you successfully defused? How many domestic disturbances have you broken up?

Still so busy trying to Monday Morning Quarterback, I see.

no, YOU want them to because you are not capable of doing it yourself, therefore you project your own cowardice upon everyone else that they can't as well. The police are trained to handle those situations but you want no accountability when they fail.

And if you are so capable of "doing it yourself", why aren't you out there protecting and serving and showing the rest of the police force how it's properly done and how to NEVER make a mistake?

oh bullshit zappa. you were told right off that it wasn't possible, yet you persisted in your idiocy about magnet strengths and some other crap.

Right...and since I had a couple follow up questions, that gave you and the other gun nuts license to just tear me to shreds and make a fool of me.

All for the high crime of DARING to ask those with more knowledge on the subject than I, some questions.

yeah... A couple times when I've dared to admit I don't know everything about a subject I've basically been told I shouldn't even be on that discussion thread.

but I just ignore those posts.

I have just as good an idea who is and isn't capable as you do, and that bugs the hell out of you, don't it?
you're still making assumptions.

Oh, I'm sorry, how many hostage situations have you successfully defused? How many domestic disturbances have you broken up?
how many aircraft have you controlled at one time? how many combat missions did you train for? See, I can ask irrelevant questions just like you.

And if you are so capable of "doing it yourself", why aren't you out there protecting and serving and showing the rest of the police force how it's properly done and how to NEVER make a mistake?
I have integrity and honor, whereas most police officers do not and ensure that anyone who does, doesn't last long.

again, bullshit. SOME of us continued to try to show you the whys and hows it would not work, then you got frustrated and started throwing out insults.

some people are asses, sorry you had to deal with that. but not all of us do that. I'm more than happy to educate anyone that is willing to listen and learn, as is billy.

you're still making assumptions.

So?

You've been doing the very same for the entire thread.

how many aircraft have you controlled at one time? how many combat missions did you train for? See, I can ask irrelevant questions just like you.

How bout that?

More obfuscation and evasion when confronted with questions that make him uncomfortable.

I have integrity and honor, whereas most police officers do not and ensure that anyone who does, doesn't last long.

Talk about making ASSumptions...Jeebus!

again, bullshit. SOME of us continued to try to show you the whys and hows it would not work, then you got frustrated and started throwing out insults.

That's not what you stated just a couple posts ago...

oh bullshit zappa. you were told right off that it wasn't possible, yet you persisted in your idiocy about magnet strengths and some other crap.

Yeah...your ORIGINAL statement sounds more like what I remember...me asking a question, you gun nuts giving me the standard dismissive brush off and when I DARED to ask a couple followup questions, I got met with a wall of taunts and derision.

yeah... A couple times when I've dared to admit I don't know everything about a subject I've basically been told I shouldn't even be on that discussion thread.

Tell me, would you challenge Einstein about physics? Or Newton about Calculus? Or any other expert about his or her particular field?
