Excessive Censorship

The point is Any that business can dictate what it will sell. Do movie theaters and netflix censor because they don't offer pornographic movies?

Businesses are amoral and have one concern making money. It must have been the decision on the board of these companies that the showing of this movie would hurt their bottom line.

If a bunch of conservative groups protested and then urged its member to not watch ANY movie at these theaters it would be hurtful.

They simply made a choice to sacrifice one movies revenues for the revenues of other films.

This decision is not unlike a decision by blockbuster to not rent out porno, or target not selling firearms.

I did a lookup of theaters in my area. There were 15 within driving distance and only half were part of regal and cinemark. Among them were 5 independent theaters.

Damo, did you even read the article ? I scanned it and it seems that no theatre has yet agreed to show the film....
These were not listed as ones that have decided not to show it. The article was about the restriction, not the opposite.

but you seem to have assumed that only those two chains would not show it. this is pure assumption on your part.

It would be the same to assume that others would not because these two are not. It is not my assertion that people are censoring this, it is up to the people making such a claim to prove that it is truly censored.

I have so far said that there are other large chains that aren't included in this, and have even given some names. So far all we have are two that have said they will not show the film. I have pointed out there are others. What is the name of this inane claptrap anyway?

but statements were made in this thread that we could go see it at other theatres, this is not yet a known fact.

"Richard Abramowitz, consultant for US distributor Newmarket Films, said the film had been booked to be screened in more than 100 venues. "

It seems like there is a limited release. That line is directly from the story provided.

So 100 theatres for the whole nation, so far....yep anyone can certainly see it that wishes to ;)
Once again, a limited release. AMC still hasn't made a decision on it. This is like saying Farenhype 9/11 was "censored" because the main theaters didn't plan on showing it before it was released. Ridiculous. However you have yet to prove the assertion that nobody will be able to see the flick who wants to. This is before the release, let's see what happens. I'm willing to bet you $10 that I'll be able to find it in my metro area....

In the Denver area, I wont take that bet, there will be at least one theatre showing it. After all didn't they vote to decriminalize pot or something ?
Now in the south, that might be an alltogether nuther matter.

And the sky might fall on us someday too.

Two US cinema chains say they will not screen a controversial British film portraying the fictional assassination of President George W Bush.
Death of a President, which shows Mr Bush being shot dead, secured a US distribution deal last month.

A third major chain said it was unsure whether to show the mock documentary, which is due to open on 27 October.

The film, which has raised protests from conservatives in the US, will be shown on UK TV channel More4 on Monday.

Regal Entertainment Group, which has more than 6,300 screens in 40 US states, said it would not show the film because of its subject matter.

Spokesman Dick Westerling said: "We do not feel it is appropriate to portray the future assassination of a president, therefore we do not intend to programme this film at any of our theatres."

Mr Westerling said Regal had received "numerous phone calls and e-mails" supporting the company.

Even if the film became a hit in other venues, Regal would stand by its decision, he added.

What a bunch of arseholes. Free speech, provided the speech conforms.

well most theaters here are more in it for making money, not a political statment...

just because a movie is made dosnt mean that a movie theater has too show it....
