1. No poll done this year ... shows less than a majority to reinstate a federal ban on assault weapons. - Dianne Feinstein

2. Congress has spent 66 of the first 100 days of this term in recess. - John Barrow

3. A "wide majority of NRA households ... supported this legislation" on gun background checks. - Barack Obama

4. A bipartisan background check amendment "outlawed any (gun) registry. - Barack Obama

5. "The NRA used to support expanded background checks." - Barack Obama

6. Polls show that Americans "overwhelmingly" support "expanding background checks." - Gabby Giffords

So why won't Congress listen to the people???

the background checks bill was not standalone. It had absurd shit like not letting a family member borrow a gun even if was on your own property or it would be a felony. shit like that.

Secondly, the people that are anti-gun are marginally so. When asked, they may give you an affirmative answer, but in truth they DO NOT GIVE A SHIT. Only 4% of voters list gun control as their number one issue. In contrast, the pro-gun crowd WILL severly harm your chances at getting re-elected.

The pro-gun movement has this issue by the balls. We own it. And we own you.

"Mob rule", that's a new one to describe a majority who just happen to support a proposal you oppose.

I think "mob rule" is accurate when propaganda is used to whip the mob into a frenzy of fear.

But the fact is that the previous "assault rifle" ban did nothing. It was a PR campaign from the beginning. Even the ceremony that Bill Clinto held to start the ban was propaganda.

A PR campaign... That describes all US elections. You have a right wing party running against a center right party - whoever makes the best pitch gets elected.
