Finally, A Vaccine! But Capitalism Makes It Too Expensive?

Any REAL american with an actual heart wouldn't even think of charging.

The love of money is the root of all evil.

It's sad that you don't have a brain. It really is. You apparently have no clue how much money it costs to bring a new drug (or vaccine) to market. Maybe all pharmaceutical companies should give away every drug for free, despite the fact that it costs billions to get a drug approved. Not to mention that most drug candidates never actually get approved for commercial use, so they end up being a giant waste of money.

So they want the innovation that comes from capitalism but just expect others to do it at their own risk, cost and time to just give it to them for free. It’s just a complete lack of understanding basic human psychology and behavior. (But it’s a hell of a virtue signal, because who can argue against it right?)

look man, when you're embracing too big too fail, it's not capitalism anymore.

doesn't capitalism sell itself as the most upliftingest thing for everybody?

what about when it just becomes a murderous machine of domination and destruction? you need to factor that into your neocon schtick.

LOL, neocon? Who’s embracing too big too fail? Don’t blame capitalism for choices the government and the Fed make. And what does too big too fail have to do with the innovation that capitalism and market forces unleash? You think some socialist ‘paradise’ will outperform and out-deliver free(er) markets?

don't call what we have capitalism, and stop defending it then.

Sorry, I will always defend capitalism until a better economic system comes along. Go ahead and support socialism or whatever you believe. No economic system has brought more people out of poverty around the globe than capitalism and no economic system has unleashed the forces of innovation and advancement like capitalism has. And because the Fed has fvcked up doesn’t change that fact.

But hey man, Bernie’s not out of the race yet if you’re pushing for socialism in America.

What if a for-profit company comes up with a vaccine, but it's run by somebody like that Schkreli guy, and they decide this is the ultimate get-rich tool.

What if they get a vaccine and decide to charge $50,000 a dose?

(Even if it only costs them pennies to make it)

Hey, it's their technology.

Capitalism says they can charge whatever they want for it.

Insurance companies could never afford to cover everybody for that. They could call it 'experimental,' and not pay.

Pay up and you can live. No money? Take your chances.

The rich could afford it, no problem. But the middle? Only if they give up their life's savings.

Should people cash in everything, just to stay alive?

And the rest may rest in peace?

Could happen.

What's to stop it?

How could the free market possibly serve a population in times like these?

It is a reason that health care should be done not for profit, but to serve we the people.

Isn't Pharma bro still in prison?? What stopped him??

Given a national emergency I would imagine they would find a way to nationalize it, pay him a pittance for the zillions he could have extorted...

but we're living in fascism, so you're just deluding yourself when you defend the current system. but keep feeling righteous if you want to.

Ok. The subject is new drugs for dealing with the coronavirus. What he the best way to achieve that goal in your viewpoint?

Hi Bill,

Isn't Pharma bro still in prison?? What stopped him??

Given a national emergency I would imagine they would find a way to nationalize it, pay him a pittance for the zillions he could have extorted...

Oh yeah. He's in lockdown as far as I recall.

And I was no thinking it would be him but somebody like him, just as greedy as he is. He has no patent on greed.

Really, for greed, there seems to be no end to it.

There seems to be an inexhaustible supply.

(There's one thing about you that's obvious, and that is that you're intellectually bankrupted)

I dot have to back up that statement, you're the one doing it for me.

That's called making an excuse on your part because you're such an idiot.

1st 'what if'.
What if they get a vaccine and decide to charge $50,000 a dose?
(Even if it only costs them pennies to make it)
2nd 'what if'.
Hey, it's their technology.
3rd 'what if'.
Capitalism says they can charge whatever they want for it.
True. They also have to deal with competition. Yes...there will be competition for that.
Insurance companies could never afford to cover everybody for that. They could call it 'experimental,' and not pay.
That's fraud. The government will punish fraud.
Pay up and you can live. No money? Take your chances.
Covid-19 doesn't kill nearly as many as other flu does. Getting Covid-19 is not a death sentence.
The rich could afford it, no problem. But the middle? Only if they give up their life's savings.
Speculations. Treatments for Covid-19 is covered by insurance companies.
It is a reason that health care should be done not for profit, but to serve we the people.
If it's not profitable, no vaccine would be produced. You speculations have turned into a paradox.

1st 'what if'.

There's no 'what if' about this: you're a fcking moron. The OP openly sets up a hypothetical situation and then you act like you discovered it's hypothetical, which in turn makes you think it not worth thinking about. Yep, you're a fcking moron.
