Florida book bans - the first step before burning

And it's tolerated by the local voters.
In many parts of America, idiot office holders are elected by idiot voters.
This is why I'm a partitionist.

It is an interesting partitioning, because it is hitting the leaning/battleground states before the solid states. There is something interesting in this strategy.

My theory is that it is being used as a threat. If teachers speak out against DeSantis, suddenly books start appearing in their classrooms, and they start going to prison.

The school and teachers are not going to get you out of prison, when you get arrested, so they really are not the issue. This law specifically moves the issue out of school rules and into felony criminal rules. Your union rep will not be able to save you, your only hope would be a criminal lawyer.
They aren't? Then perhaps it's just best not to get "arrested"....That's easy....

Yes, and the way to avoid being arrested is not committing a crime. In this case, the crime is bringing books into the school, which is why I would suggest teachers get as far away from books as possible. I mean it is a more severe crime than drugs, so do not even bring a book into school for personal use. Do not leave books in the car, because the car will be in the parking lot of the school.

Given the one year limitation, do not assume that having a book approved means you can avoid prison. If it were just an administrative issue, then you could make such an assumption, but this is a criminal issue.

It is good to see you are beginning to understand the diabolical nature of this crime.

I guarantee you...no one is worried about this potential crime spree but you....;)

You will be taught to OBEY......OR ELSE!

Exactly. For once your psychotic ramblings produced a tiny truth nugget. Yes, teachers WILL obey or else risk losing their jobs *and* possibly face prison as well. DeSatan has handed over to the MAGATs the power to dictate what all kids will learn in public schools, never mind what non-MAGATs believe. Education has always had a tinge of politics attached to it, but nothing like it is becoming in MAGATLand now. You pathetic, terrified losers are sure that if children learn about slavery and racism and LGBTQ ppl, that somehow they will never vote for another (R) again.

I often receive donations of multiple copies of the same book for school... I mentioned quite a while ago that there was one grouping that I offered to parents if they wished to share with their children ... a few people looked but no one took them....I still have a few copies and if anyone is interested and you want to pay postage I'll be glad to send you a set...https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/27/us/transgender-teens-books.html

Quite lying, Toxic. No one gives you books, nor do you donate books or anything else. You can't even afford to fix all the stuff wrong with the outside of your house. Nice try though on getting ppl's personal info.

Wrong, as usual.

Yes, some Florida teachers are packing up their class libraries because of new law

'Nobody wants a felony for just trying to teach': Duval teachers call school book law 'vague'

Florida teachers forced to remove or cover up books to avoid felony charges

Manatee County School District teachers are experiencing “fear” and “confusion” as the district works to implement HB 1467, which requires that books be pre-approved materials or vetted by a media specialist trained by Florida’s Department of Education, according to Pat Barber, president of the Manatee Education Association, the county’s teachers’ union.

A document provided by the district that lays out new statutory changes to HB 1467 indicates violations could be considered a third-degree felony.

No one is being forced to do anything....and no good teacher is worried.... or offering extra credit to read books that are on the list of those not approved;) If a teacher is doing their job they certainly aren't worried about their shelves... or anything else in their room... but their children...and being there for them... if there's inappropriate material in a classroom then it's good to know that it's being removed ... the only people worried about a "felony" are the ones who aren't doing their job properly... and that's easily solved...

Judgmental smarm alert! Hypocrisy torpedo incoming!

"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." -- Jesus

That is absolutely terrible advice. Bosses will tell you that as long as you do what you are told, they will handle any criminal charges, but they are lying. Worse yet, they are often planning to make a plea agreement if everyone is caught. There is no "my boss told me to do it" defense to criminal charges, no matter what field you are in. This goes more so if you are a licensed teacher. As part of the licensing process, you are pledging to put criminal law ahead of your job.

Yes, they are. FL already has the worst teacher shortage of all states. This is only going to make it worse.

It is the most bizarre strategy to lighten a severe teacher shortage, attacking teachers.

Worse yet they have expanded out to attacking nurses.

Actually they are quite worried, as I demonstrated in this earlier post. Toxic pretends to ignore my posts but in reality reads them all, hence the insistence and judgmental 'tude in post #211, above. As usual, she is dead wrong.
