Florida book bans - the first step before burning

I don't share personal information in PMS either but someone does...;) I was not a substitute I was a classroom teacher and I'm getting a pension for life actually one that transfers over to my daughter when I pass away... just a little less than half of what I'm given now ... isn't that awesome?

I would never rat out another teacher... I'm no tattletale...;) Someone who is not doing what they're supposed to be doing in the classroom will add themselves in a very short period of time...
No wonder Ohio is going broke. https://www.strsoh.org/_pdfs/brochures/20-101.pdf

Why would someone not report teachers abusing children?

Some people just aren't meant to teach.... your girl with the imaginary banned book list is one of them... she'll find her calling eventually...she'll give up....

I hope not, she’s the type I want teaching my community? What is it you believe she is doing wrong? You keep ignoring that question.

Anyone who likes can call STRS and ask about that particular pension plan... I chose the perfect time to retire...

Oh, I apologize, teach. You must have mistaken me for someone that gives a rat's ass. ;)

She's obviously not there for the children if she's promoting her personal beliefs..What is she doing wrong? You wrote the post... did you forget already?.

Nope. Wrong again, teach. She is teaching a valuable lesson to her students. If they don't want you to read something, there is probably something there that makes it worth reading. I guess words ONLY hurt poor little white kids. Right teach? ;)

In a state where they encourage free thinking and don't attempt to marginalize non-white and non-straight people. And with a platform from which to speak out against the backwards and hateful policies of the Florida Schools.

I believe that Jarod is an attorney. That would indicate a higher-than-average salary. It's likely that he lives in an affluent area. It's been my experience that parents with more education and income than the average choose to live where the schools pay better and focus on well-rounded educations, not just shunting kids out the door half-formed, like Toxic TOP's school obviously did. So teachers like the one Jarod mentioned are priceless and will most likely be protected by both parents who desire good education, and administrators who desire to offer the very best to their families and students.

Why don't you have a problem with encouraging reading of alternative ideas that are frowned upon for young people? I wonder if she sent the imaginary list home with the students? The more I think about it the less believable your story is...;)

Because these teenagers are perfectly capable of evaluating ideas for themselves, they need to be exposed to a very wide spectrum of ideas and theories, not just State Approved ideas. It’s Anti-Fascist. Letting the State chose is a road to fascism.

What in the world are you talking about? No problem , though, if Jarod's story is true she won't be there very long to continue teaching these "valuable lessons"... she'll be much happier somewhere else....

Agreed. Ultimately, we know the people here only by what they post. But I'll bet I could do a pretty good job of making a list of posters here by IQ and education level. It's easy to believe Jarod, because his legal points are precise and objective. Other people are less easy to believe. Ultimately, the claims people make here inform more less than the posts they make. Everyone Trumper here is an incredibly successful, wealthy, handsome former vet and business owner. And then you read their posts......;)

There are lots of ways to obtain knowledge and conspiracies. The internet spreads crazy ideas. Taking books out of schools in Florida is just political grandstanding. It is meaningless.

I'm pretty sure that someone who has repeatedly referred to urban students as "inner city thugs" was never a teacher. Thank the gods for that much.

My inner city teachers never once called me an "inner city thug."
They had the decency to just call me an "obnoxious prick."
Word leaked from the teachers' lounge; I'm not making it up, but I am bragging a little bit.

Then get the books for your kids and let them read at home... if that's how you truly feel... do you also agree that children are perfectly capable of evaluating ideas for themselves and need to be exposed to a wide spectrum of ideas and theories ...not just parent approved rules?

How, exactly, is providing a list of books that "the government doesn't want you to read" promoting personal beliefs? You keep dodging the question. Is she *forcing* them to read the books? No. Is she encouraging students to read them? Yes. So fucking what.

Which of this would you burn first?

Banned Books

I have no doubt he/she will be happier somewhere else. Which is probably why they are doing this. You really didn't pick up on that teach? Your classroom must have been incredibly creative. Everyone was trying to figure out how they could make time speed up... ;)

Since you are incapable of figuring this out on your own, I'll try, but unfortunately, I can't post any visual aids to help you. The reason behind banning books about slavery was because they would make white kids feel bad about themselves. You knew that right teach? But at the same time, Florida has done everything they can to make sure that if you are gay, or transgender, you feel utter shame. You are fully onboard with that approach, which of course speaks volumes about your character and who you are. You literally care more about dogs than human beings. How sad.

Ron DeSantis is still riding on Trump's White Supremacist coattails, but that may blow up in his face when it comes to garnering votes in a national election. Most Americans dislike Nazis, White Supremacists and other haters.

The present tactic seems to be for Florida's far Right leadership to pass vague laws then threaten or selectively prosecute teachers for violating the law and/or abusing children. Due to low pay, most teachers can't afford defending themselves in court so they simply remove all and any books that could violate the law as interpreted by RW wackadoodles.

There is no ban list, just the power of the State to threaten the freedom of teachers and their livelihood. This is more insidious than simply producing a banned list of books like the Torah, the Quran and Catcher in the Rye because it intimidates teachers and school administrations to simply get rid of anything that might be controversial. The effect will be a generation of ignorant Floridian voters who won't be able to compete with better educated Americans. In the end, Florida will become dumber and poorer in the quest to make Florida white again.

Meanwhile, Trannies and ultraconservative pastors have found common ground in recent years in support of burning Harry Potter books:
