Ford announces tariffs due to Donnie's tariffs

R B 60 is just mentally masturbating, feels good but only sterile. Tariffs mean that manufacturing costs here, even if the products are sold here, will go up.

Only if the materials used in the manufacturing process are subject to tariffs. But typical liberal post spec of truth but mostly lies.

In theory, the demand for domestic metals spikes which shorts supply which drives up costs which drives down sales. In reality, Ford has been in long-term trouble awhile. It is a giant blob of a company that can seldom keep pace with the marketplace.

US metal supplies are fine and can keep up with production requirements. Again, we are talking about one US auto manufacturer.

Proclaiming it doesn't make it true.

It is more one US auto assembler of foreign manufactured parts but whatevs.

You specifically said metals. My reply is true.

Quit yer whining, Trumpers: you were told tariffs would hurt manufacturing big time.

Tariffs on the steel and aluminum they build the automobiles out of does, Einstooge. :palm:

NOT questioning Trump business savvy is WHY prices are going up.

Kacper, don't pretend that the threat of tariffs last year did not affect planning.

This is the thread title

Thread: Ford announces tariffs due to Donnie's tariffs

Ford's sales are mostly domestic, aren't they? Why would tariffs have an effect on domestic sales?....Twerp :whoa:

Material prices are rising due to the incompetence of the Liar in Chief.....this is just the beginning....it WILL get worse.

You are an idiot. Keep up...

Tell us how it's profitable for auto manufacturers to pay more for imported raw materials without raising their own prices.

Then tell us how increased prices result in increased sales.

Then tell us how decreased sales helps them to keep employees on the job.

You are an idiot. Keep up...

He is finally standing up to these other countries that don’t give a shit about the United States.
Take a look at the trade balance between United States and other countries like China.
We need to get back to an equal playing field with other countries.

Imported raw (as well as finished) materials are inferior to American made metals. If imported prices rise, it would make more sense to buy American made materials and promote American jobs.

Imported raw (as well as finished) materials are inferior to American made metals.

The issue is cost, not quality. As long as imported steel meets the minimum standards, it's perfectly usable. The American steel industry has lagged behind imported steel for decades because of high domestic production costs. That's why the auto and other manufacturing industries rely so heavily on imported steel which has increased in quality.

If imported prices rise, it would make more sense to buy American made materials and promote American jobs.

That doesn't address the problem of higher auto prices. It doesn't matter who they buy their steel from if the price is high from all sources. Trump's moronic economic policies are taking away the lower cost sources of raw materials and now we're beginning to see the cost associated with electing an idiot and a fraud.

They rely on it because it's cheaper, and it is inferior. Leveling the playing field only helps US manufacturers. I'd rather pay a few dollars more for superior American made products. Why wouldn't you if the prices are comparable?

If it were a matter of "a few dollars", it wouldn't be a big deal, but it's not just a few dollars. If steel price increases add a couple of thousand or more dollars to the price of a vehicle, sales will suffer.

People make purchasing decisions based primarily on price. The fact that one type of steel might have slightly higher technical specs than another makes no difference to most people. As long as the steel that comprises the automobiles they drive is of an adequate strength and quality to afford reasonable protection in a crash and doesn't rust out in a few years, people will be satisfied because they want and require affordably priced vehicles.

When the prices of vehicles go up significantly, consumers put off purchasing new ones. That results in fewer sales, lower profits for the manufacturer and layoffs for the employees. Then the ripple effect gets felt by everyone.

Way to go Trumptards.
