It looks like Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson is starting to take steps that will raise his national profile in anticipation of a Presidential run in 2012.

I haven't seen much media on the guy that rocked my world so far, but on message alone, he needs to be heard and it would be a vast improvement to have a GOP candidate with his views.

crap, crap, crap.....wasn't it bad enough that we had two years of campaigning for 2008?.....now we need three years for 2012?.......

He's not campaigning. He's hinting that he might campaign in the future.

And it seems we're already in need of some new ideas, so I don't really mind a vigorous debate in the country about what needs to be done differently.

He's the one the teabaggers love, right? I wouldn't expect him to do any better than Ron Paul. And if Ron Paul runs in 2012 they're going to split their already tiny fraction of the vote.

I wouldn't say his appeal is exclusive to the Tea Party movement, no.

And I personally don't think it would be a good idea for Ron Paul to run in 2012. I would see this as the next step in having libertarian-leaning candidates in the GOP. Whether it's Johnson or someone else, I don't know.

Ron Paul? Maybe now he could. But the point is not to create a cult of Ron Paul in the Republican Party, it's to create a genuine movement for limited government and a humble foreign policy.

And if there is a skilled candidate who can bring those ideas to the forefront, I don't imagine Ron Paul will feel slighted in the least. We want more and younger messengers for these ideas. And ones with solid resumes that demonstrate that their ideas have worked in practice.

The problem with Ron Paul is that to nearly everyone who's not a Libertarian he looks insane. People like hearing small government rhetoric, but they actually despise small government in practice.

No, because it fucking sucks and is an awful system.

you remind me of that brady campaign member who said 'but i don't want to defend myself'.

why are you afraid of freedom? because you're afraid of responsibility. therefore, you need a nanny state to tell you what's good and bad for you.
