'Gerry Adams ordered London bombing campaign and a series of notorious murders

How many British pensioners live in the Basque country? How many British have been directly affected by ETA activities? The vast majority live on the Mediterranean coast. and have never been aware of bombings unlike the IRA bombings in mainland Britain. To try to make a comparison is just frankly ridiculous.

I imagine it would have been easy to miss the ETA beach bombing campaigns if you were a tourist, even more so if you were living in a Spanish beach resort.

Or maybe you were "ignorant" about that, eh Tom?

So it takes a British death to instill any degree of awareness amongst the population?

Maybe if the IRA had killed a dozen or so Americans they'd have been more interested in the identity of Gerry Adams?

I admire your tenacity, but I think that horse you are flogging ought to be sent to the knackers.

I hate to break this to you, Tom, but most Americans couldn't give a fuck about Britain or Ireland.

We are not the centre of the universe any more.

You are not telling anything I don't know but it didn't seem to stop many on here in the past banging on about IRA 'freedom fighters'.

No, you're quite right.

Every American should know who Gerry Adams is because it is relevant to you.

I didn't say that, I was amazed that a 48 year old man living in Pennsylvania has no knowledge of Northern Ireland or Gerry Adams. The last time I was in the US which was admittedly back in the '90s, the only British news that seemed to be published or broadcast was the Northern Ireland peace process, Princess Diana and...err... actually that's it.

I could see why those with Irish heritage would have an interest but they're only about 10-15% of the population as a whole, and I thought Pennsylvania was originally ethnic German, although nowadays someone living there might come from just about anywhere.

For the most part i'm sure many American still think of England as 'cute accents, bad teeth and terrible food', just as many Brits think of them as loud, stupid and fat. Inaccurate but persistent generalisations (although, fuck me, they are fat).

Was William Penn German? Is Steel plate Amish? There are no shortage of Irish in Pittsburgh or Philadelphia come to that, ask Christie she will tell you.

People in NYC and Boston know who Gerry Adams is. I know who he is. I don't know about the rest of the country. The odd thing was insisting this thread be addressed on a day that Boston had other things on its mind, as did the rest of us. I mean, frankly who gives a shit right now?

Yes, there are those with Irish heritage but i'll wager they are a small minority in Pennsylvania these days.

Boston is a huge Irish city and is close to Pennsylvania. What's more it was a massive source of funds for Noraid, so I hope that SCOTUS turns down Boston College's pleading to keep the tapes from being released to the PSNI. Oh and there are no shortage of Irish in Pennsylvania.
