Doing away with the electoral college would require a constitutional amendment and that means 3/4 of the states would have to ratify. The small states are not going to disenfranchise themselves . THINK
 
It would be impossible to get even HALF the states to ratify such an amendment.

It's the dem controlled sanctuary states that want to go to popular election of the president. That would give them a huge incentive to bring in more illegals and let them vote.

You base that on what, your imagination?
Do you understand illegals cannot vote? They cannot register because they are not citizens. Why would illegals vote? If they tried, they would risk the jobs they came here for. What do they know about our politics? If you could vote in Mexico, who would you vote for? What, you know nothing about their politics? What a shock.

But none of the laws are enforced. Sancturary cities admit they don't enforce immigration laws and that means illegals vote.

There is no reason to change the Constitution to eliminate the electoral college. As usual, TDAK is too stupid to realize that this process has already started. States may allocate their electoral votes in any manner they want. Once states representing half of the electoral vote agree to allocate them to the winner of the popular vote, the electoral college becomes moot.

I know what you mean. We'll be told 80% of the states ratified even though just 30% did. And no one will challenge that. Just like the gover-media says biden got 81 million votes when he got more like 50 mill. The people who challenged that on j6 were thrown in prison.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact will not be ruled unconstitutional, and the Constitution scheme of elections will be then null and void.

No State may choose the electoral college members for any other State. They can only choose them for their own.
 
The manner is which the P and VP are elected is spelled out in the 12th amendment and no state legislature can change that anymore than they can institute a poll tax in violation of the 24th amendment. Federal congress can't do it either. You must go thru the amending process as spelled out in the constitution and that stipulates 3/4 of the states must approve the amendment. Not half not 2/3 but 3/4.

The 12th amendment modifies the original operation of the electoral college, but states still have the power to determine how electors are chosen in each state. The Constitution also gives Congress the power to make some regulations.

"The Congress may determine the Time of chusing the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States."
 
In fact, 10 states plus DC have made it so that their electoral votes will go to the candidate with the most votes. The states have that power. So an amendment is not needed. It is called The National Popular Vote interstate compact. It goes into effect once we cross 270 EV votes in states that join. So Text and Into The Dark are wrong again.
