To Try Men's Soul: A Novel of George Washington and the Fight for America's Freedom by Newt Gingrich, William R. Forstechen and Albert Hanswer follows three men who played different roles history: George Washington, Thomas Paine, and Jonathan Van Dorn. Dorn was a private in Washington's army.

At the time Washington is preparing for the crossing of the Delaware. Instead of being portrayed as bold and courageous, as in Emanuel Leutz's painting, the General is full of doubt on the night of December 25, 1776.

An Ad hom and ridicule, what a surprise.
Did you ever read his Novel about Ghetty'sburg? Dixie would love it! LOL It's an alternative history of what would have happened had Lee taken Longstreets advice on the second day of battle and used Pickets division to sweep around the Unions southern flank on little round top and cut off Meades line of supply. It's actually an entertaining read but also shows that Newt and his co-writer are not military strategist by a long shot.
