The only reason why the Republicans nominated a woman was to counter the Democrats running an African-American. The Republican campaign was essentially doomed after 8 years of Bushism and the quagmire of Iraq....which is the only reason McCain got the nomination.

Notice all the other major Republican candidates bowed out early because candidates who win the nomination and fail are rarely run again. The 2008 election was the Democrat's election to lose. The Republicans were not only fighting an uphill battle but staring up at a cliff the size of Mount Thor.

No, she was a well respected conservative governor.

Did her being a woman play a role in that decision?

Probably to some degree.

She was what would be considered a very safe pick.

Unfortunately the left hated seeing an attractive conservative woman and attacked her relentlessly then McCain refused to back her up and left her out to dry.

I believe she had an approval rating somewhere in the 90's in Alaska when she was picked for VP.

That's debatable but I'd be happy to read any links you have proving it to be true. IIRC, she resigned before the end of her first term.

Stunt casting by the Republican establishment who knew she was very unlikely to become VP so it was all gain for them to prove they didn't have a War on Women by running a woman who could never win the election. LOL

Palin had high ratings until she bailed out on Alaskans. Since then, her approval ratings have dropped significantly.

And given the fact that Trump has never paid him for his legal fees is not helping.

This is the number one reason why Trump is unable to acquire a decent lawyer anymore. Trump will pay a retainer fee, but then never pays them for their many hours they spend on trials and legal filings with the courts. In fact, he makes it a point to refuse paying a lawyer when his case loses in court- AND MOST OF THEM DO!

Trump being a liar and a chiseler will work against him in the end. It worked for Trump when it was just civil suits, but in criminal court, it's going to hurt him.
