The graph in the OP clearly shows a steady upward trend in average global temperature. The article focused in anomalies, or out of the normal range spikes and dips.

As far as houses on pilings are concerned, BFD. What good is that going to do anyone when that have to slosh through two feet of water for half a mile or take a motor boat from the nearest dry land just to get to them?
