Consumer spending down, Inflation up, Incomes down

WASHINGTON (AP) — A key inflation gauge moved higher in May in the latest sign that prices remain stubbornly elevated while Americans also cut back on their spending last month.

Prices rose 2.3% in May compared with a year ago, up from just 2.1% in April, the Commerce Department said Friday. Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, core prices rose 2.7% from a year earlier, an increase from 2.6% the previous month. Both figures are modestly above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. The Fed tracks core inflation because it typically provides a better guide to where inflation is headed.

At the same time, Americans cut back on spending for the first time since January, as overall spending fell 0.1%. Incomes dropped a sharp 0.4%. Both figures were distorted by one-time changes: Spending on cars plunged, pulling down overall spending, because Americans had moved more quickly to buy vehicles in the spring to get ahead of tariffs.

The real effects of Crazy Trump's trade war has yet to be felt.

The perversion-riddled segment of our electorate got that for which they voted,
and even as their own personal economic situations and prospects diminish substantially,
they still revere their pigfucking leader.

It takes at least a modest measure of sanity to recognize cause and effect.

And Unemployment numbers went up another 247.000 last week.
When all Trumps tariffs and cuts do get in place it is going to be a real mess.

The Trump voter whose girlfriend is getting deported is still fighting for a place in line to kiss Trump's flabby ass. It's a cult.

MAGA's seem to be living in a weird sort of echo chamber on this. All of the podcasters and other outlets keep repeating that we have a "booming" economy now.

It's worse then when Biden left office, by just about any measure.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all items increased by 2.4% over the last 12 months, ending in May 2025. This is a measure of inflation for a basket of consumer goods and services. The index for all items less food and energy increased by 2.8% over the same period, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (.gov).

2.4% is GREAT when compared to Biden.
