(Reuters) - Goldman Sachs Group Inc plans to channel investments totaling $40 billion over the next decade into renewable energy projects, an area the investment bank called one of the biggest profit opportunities since its economists got excited about emerging markets in 2001.
Goldman executives said this week that demand for alternative energy sources will grow with global energy demand, and as big manufacturing countries, including China and Brazil, set more aggressive targets for reducing emissions. The bank plans to finance deals with clients' money and, to a lesser extent, its own funds.

That's what GS does best, parting suckers from their money.

Hmmm... but I thought private equity was all about killing jobs?

GS has its eye on the vast amounts of filthy lucre to be gained from carbon trading. Another Ponzi scheme in the making, they have already sucked the life's blood out of Greece et al and are looking for another easy mark.

Trust me... I seriously doubt you can find someone who despises Goldman and JP Morgan etc... more than I do. Cap and trade is absolutely a scheme that is designed to benefit states (here in the US... countries in the EU) that use nat gas and nuclear electric production from those that use coal and transfer wealth from one company to another. It does little if anything to actually reduce emissions over all.

I was just mocking the ability of some members of the left to bash private equity in one breath and then champion it in the next.

It baffles me how anybody can consider GS to be a force for the good especially as regards renewable energy. Their track record speaks for itself, it's not called a blood-sucking vampire squid for no reason.

1. Private equity, like any tool, can be used for good or evil. That is what makes Romney all the more a bad actor, that he chose the quick buck of the corporate raider rather than the long dollar of the venture capitalist that he pretends to be.

2. I wasn't championing GS but rather green energy. If you were even slightly more aware, you would realise that the majority of my posts are about green energy.
