Goldman's White House connections raise eyebrows

WASHINGTON — While Goldman Sachs' lawyers negotiated with the Securities and Exchange Commission over potentially explosive civil fraud charges, Goldman's chief executive visited the White House at least four times.

White House logs show that Chief Executive Lloyd Blankfein traveled to Washington for at least two events with President Barack Obama, whose 2008 presidential campaign received $994,795 in donations from Goldman's political action committee, its employees and their relatives. He also met twice with Obama's top economic adviser, Larry Summers.

also, note that goldman gave nearly a million dollars to obama's campaign....tell me again exactly what the Citizen's case changed by allowing corps to directly pay for advertisements, but not give specifically to candidates?

Can youi imagine if this was Bush? LOL we'd see thread after thread about corporate cronyism.

It's been established that Evince(Deshrubinator) and Cypress are total fucking hypocrites

Greg Craig, former white house counsel will be representing Goldman.

this regulation bill just officializes the ponzi scheme bailout fund. taxes on the industry to go into the fund always come from the people who actually work for a living.

lol...typical left wing media....obama's ties merely raise eye brows, a republican's ties feel the heat....

once again, obama gets a pass, while republicans do not

Was Obama on Goldman's board of directors and is he in the middle of a campaign?

I've seen Meg talk and I've met her and I can't say (besides her wealth) I'm all that enamored with her but realistically how does being on the BOD for a year 9 years ago really play a role in a campaign today?

How does it play a role or why is it relevant? It plays a role because her opponents can beat the shit out of her with it. It isn't relevant to much of anything at all. The way campaigns are covered something doesn't have to be relevant to be covered and to work as an attack angle.

was bush on the board of directors of enron and was he in the middle of a campaign?

she was on the board almos a decade ago....obama's ties to goldman are current, not nearly a decade ago....

anything to apologize for anything the dems do

Why on earth would they recently vote to remove the corporate campaign contribution cap? So corrupt.

No, but he and Ken "Kenny Boy" Lay had a history of being friends.

I understand that she was on the Board almost a decade ago. That's why I said it isn't really relevant to anything.

I'm not apologizing for anything, I'm merely explaining why two different headline editors might write two different headlines for two different stories for two different people in two different situations regarding their two different ties to Goldman.

If GS was involved in fraudulent practices Obama needs to give them their money back...no?

What do you mean, "if this was bush"? It was bush. Spin this, guy.

"Public Citizen’s report finds that the 416 Bush Rangers and Pioneers have bundled together at least $58.1 million for the 2004 campaign and that 90 percent of them (374) represent the special interests of America’s corporations.

Public Citizen’s report details how Bush has given tax breaks that benefit the finance industry, made it easier for real estate developers to build on wetlands and in the Florida Everglades, reneged on a campaign pledge to regulate carbon dioxide emissions (pleasing the electric utility and mining industries), increased the amount of public land available for oil and gas exploration and coal mining, filled top Interior Department positions with executives from the mining industry, and aided the pharmaceutical industry by pushing pro-industry Medicare drug legislation."
