Ya know, I'm admittedly not well versed in the bible, but I never saw anything about the war in heaven in it. So I'm wondering where the texts that describe it are located.

The Book of Enoch. It also describes Heaven and Hell and is the source of much of the angel's names and other cool stuff. When you read about the 9 circles of Hell, for example, that's the source...

Paintings, etc. are based on that book, it was once even mentioned by Christ in the Bible but then rejected by the Nicean Council and not included in the modern Bible.
