The idea is to raise a child to help them become secure, independent, an individual, an optimist and empathetic. Conservative authoritarian parenting creates none of that. It creates insecurity, conformity, pessimism and fear.

Liberals believe in discipline, with very little or no physical violence. Discipline does not require either physical violence or yelling. It only requires resolve. If you tell them 'no', first be sure that is really your final answer. Then you must make sure that 'no' is the final result. If an hour of crying, pleading, begging and tantrums ends up with the answer becoming 'yes', you as a parent just reinforced all that crying, pleading, begging and tantrums that went on during that hour, and guaranteed it will happen again.

As my children got older, I would ask them more questions than tell them what to do or not do. 99% of the time, they would come up with the same answers I had in mind. But it built self confidence, problem solving ability and self reliance in themselves, and increased my trust in them and their judgement.

Conservative authoritarian parenting tears a child down. It creates obedience only when the authoritarian parent is present. These are the kids who are like caged animals who gets out of the gate. Away from the home they have no self discipline, no self confidence, no self control, no respect for others and no intelligence.
