GOP drops some promises out of the gate

A top agenda item for the incoming House Republicans is to immediately start cutting spending. The GOP promised to reduce “nondefense” (or alternatively “nonsecurity”) spending for 2011 to the 2008 level, representing a $100 billion cut. GOP leaders are now being accused of backsliding on that promise, so let’s take a look at the numbers.

The idea is to reduce fiscal 2011 “budget authority” to the level it was in fiscal 2008. The chart shows the growth in nondefense budget authority since 2000. The spike in 2009 is from $265 billion in discretionary spending authorized in the “stimulus” bill.

The Republicans said they'd save "at least $100 billion in the first year alone." Look it up. It's right in that spiffy Pledge to America marketing document the Republicans put out before the election. They aren't going to do that and aren't even going to come close.

Most of the leading indicators are looking very good; a private sector employment report the other day blew away expectations.

You should pay attention, because that's all stuff that you'll be crediting the GOP for in a few months...

That private sector group is known for wild ass guesses that are far off the actual numbers.

Economically we are likely going to see a good quarter or two to start the year due to relative strength over Europe and due to an extension of the Bush tax cuts. But fundamentally we are still very weak and essentially sitting on the edge. If the idiots in DC continue to spend recklessly as they have over the past four years... we are going to see the double dip. Still major concerns in the housing market. Still major concerns about state budgets (especially CA, IL, OR, NV and MI). Still an insane debt level. Still no fix for SS. Still no fix for Medicare. Still have the health care bill fiasco. Financial reg didn't do anything to the actual culprits behind the mess in 2007-09.

Jobs are still anemic. We need to see at least 350k per month for several months straight to loosen the corps up and get them investing again in labor.

It's all part of his plan.

How else can he credit the GOP with the economic turnaround unless he ignores all the signs currently out there that Obama's and Democrat actions of the last two years is REALLY what turned the economy around?

This just in.... Republicans in the House just saved 80 million jobs.... proof you want... 80 million people haven't lost a job since yesterday. Done. :)

Apologist talk?
WTF are you talking about?
Republicans have a third of gov. and 1 day in session and you think I'm apologizing for them not solving the worlds problems....man, you are a moron.

Yeah, I've been paying attention...the economy still stinks....and the government is, for all practical purposes, bankrupt.

Not only a moron, but a sniveling, runny-nosed moron. He felt better when the Dems spent the last two years economically running our country into the ground because they were "doing" something.

Now WTF are you talking about....what 'broken promises' are you referring to?

I get the feeling we are seeing Yurt turning Liberalese right in front of our very own eyes!

I think he's turning Liberalese, I think he's turning Liberalese, I really think so!

its right in the OP

the pledge to cut 100 billion and The first spending cut measure to come to the floor — imposing a 5 percent spending cut on lawmakers' budgets for office expenses and staff salaries — is hardly in keeping with the promise to return spending back to pre-Obama levels. Such costs have risen by 14 percent since that time.

are you serious? you won't call out the gop for breaking promises? and to do so means i'm a liberal...

thats a partisan hack view usloyal...

I'm all in favor of someone responding to what I wrote. It's just that you have this habit of consistently twisting what I write in your responses to me, usually by creating absolute statements that I never made. That's ankle-biting silliness.

You even did it in the above thread. I called you and only you and ankle-biter and you claim that I call "anyone that dares respond" to me an ankle-biter. Not so. It's just you. And I do it because you're an ankle-biter.

you just get angry when you're called on your partisan bullshit...you get this way all the time with everyone

its obvious it bothers you, so instead of actually discussing the issues, its much easier to attack the person

Did you look at the link I posted?

Are you fuckin' serious ?

They've been in control of the House for 1 day, numbskull...

you and that pinhead Onceler deserve each other....
you and him a two sides of the same coin....the asshole coin.

i said "NOT" even a week

this is pathetic, both parties do it...why can't we elect people who will keep promises...the broken promise listed in the OP is not a bullshit promise, it can and should be done

I guess this is why we need to start voting the third party candidates. If everyone makes the switch in 2012, can you imagine the message it would send to both Repubs and Dems!

what a hack...you can't call them out on their bullshit so you attack me

i gave you the broken promises and instead of admitting it, you attack...

Jesus H Christ, Yurt. You need to take a major chill pill and get your sense of humour in check. You take everything so goddamned serious lately it's a little weird.
