“While the people of Florida, and thousands of visitors who've traveled here, are facing an emergency, Charlie Crist has demonstrated, yet again, that his political ambition will always come first.”



With Tropical Storm Isaac gathering strength as it churns toward the Gulf Coast, Curry called Crist’s timing “appalling.”



Crist, who was elected governor in 2006 as a Republican, was a loyal party soldier for years. He once called himself “a pro-life, pro-gun, anti-tax Republican.”

I'm one of them. I was kicked out for my socially liberal views. My belief in Keynesian economics and because I'm a biologist who believes in real science, not some religious lay persons idea of what it should be. Never mind that there are other of their values that I do share. I don't agree with everything the ideologues and right wing nut jobs believe in so it was made quite clear that I was not welcome. Since independent parties in the US system are virtually useless I've become a blue dog democrat. Though philosophically I left the Republican party in 2000, I didn't literally leave it until 2004.
