The person of interest in the UHC CEO assassination who was taken into custody has been identified as Luigi Mangione, an anti-capitalist climate-change activist and former Ivy League student.

On his Goodreads account, he liked quotes from “Unabomber’’ Ted Kaczynski.

He was reportedly caught using a fake ID in Pennsylvania with a manifesto that listed grievances with the healthcare industry.

So, this is the CEO assassin?

Looks like it.

This is a weird one. It's a real indictment of our healthcare system that a man who was at the center of the healthcare issues many Americans face daily was gunned down in cold-blood in the street in broad daylight and we as a nation can't really feel "bad" about it.

Objectively it is a horrible thing. But clearly America's healthcare infrastucture and insurance systems are SO BELOVED that when a CEO responsible for a big chunk of it gets murdered many Americans shrugged and said "huh. Who cares?"

That's TERRIFYING.

Speak for yourself.

I'd say it's an indictment of the people who don't feel bad about a cowardly assassination, but perhaps that's just me.

Wasn't Obamacare supposed to fix our healthcare system?

It is. I've stated clearly from the start here that regardless of what this guy and his corporation do, this was a horrible thing to have been murdered on a public street by some stranger. Yet, many of our resident Leftists on this board castigated me for having that opinion. They openly stated they think he deserved it.

Ahhhh, so you think it's only the Left that would do anything unhinged like murder a healthcare professional?

Interesting claim. Especially given the body-count the religious right has racked up in terms of abortion doctors.

Only in thought and word. In reality, all it did was add another layer of expensive bureaucracy raising the cost of health insurance.

CBPB says this:

"The Affordable Care Act (ACA) dramatically improved health insurance coverage rates, and recent decisions by Congress and the Administration related to its implementation have boosted both coverage and affordability, according to a new report from the Department of Health and Human Services’ Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE)." (SOURCE)

I know it pisses you off that many more Americans now have access to affordable healthcare DESPITE THEM NOT EARNING IT!

Healthcare in America is NOT A RIGHT. IT IS A PRIVILEGE RESERVED FOR THE WEALTHY (ie GOOD PEOPLE)

No, there are unhinged assholes on the radical Right who would murder people, but they typically don't choose CEO's of a large corporation as their target. That's the Left that does that.

Nothing compared to the radical Left when they get in power.

No they murder the doctors directly.

Nothing compared to the radical Left when they get in power.

LOL. So I guess murder done by a Righty is "OK"? Interesting.

Healthcare is not a Right. Neither is an education for that matter. Rights are inalienable and available to the maximum degree possible. Rights do not have a price tag attached requiring spending. If you had a Right to a high school diploma for example you might as well print them on toilet paper and put them in every public restroom since you are entitled by it, being a Right, to one whenever you want it, no strings attached.

I don't care what some government bureaucracy says about what Obamacare is supposed to do, what it does do is add a layer of government bureaucracy to the process of purchasing individual health insurance plans and raise the cost of those plans significantly. It has not lowered the cost of health insurance at all but rather has shifted the cost from individuals to taxpayers as a whole. That is, it in the end, fucks everybody.

Healthcare is not a Right.

THANK GOD you are allowed to access it. I think it's just hard to NOT care about those who aren't as good a person as you are.

But then they are bad (*probably poor) so they should just suffer as necessary.

Neither is an education for that matter.

You've shown that it is possible to make it to adulthood and at least afford a computer all without benefit of any!

I don't care what some government bureaucracy says about what Obamacare is supposed to do

WHAT IT DID. Not what it is supposed to do. WHAT IT DID.

It allowed more Americans to get access to affordable healthcare. And that bothers you to no end. You would be happier if they just suffered.

, what it does do is add a layer of government bureaucracy to the process of purchasing individual health insurance plans

Studies (you know the things that prove the point) show that developed first world countries with single payer healthcare have per capita healthcare costs that are HALF of ours and they have AS GOOD OR BETTER life expectancy.

What IS known is the the INSURANCE companies DO actually add non-value layers of bureaucracy.

If you don't believe that you must be right fresh outta school and you've never had to deal with your insurance company. I wish you luck.

*Right now you may have the insurance card and think it will be covered, but you will be unpleasantly surprised everysooften. ;)
