the F150 is a pickup truck (which I can't believe anyone discussing vehicles doesn't know). Mott stated it was the number one vehicle... you countered with the Corolla (though you attempted to change the subject slightly by stating CAR rather than his original premise of VEHICLE). Regardless, Corolla is number one, followed by the F150.

I was incorrect earlier, I just looked and the Volkswagon Golf is now third, the Beetle fourth.

As to your point, the F150 is designed more for the Rural and Suburban use. It is not made for a large city and thus you will not tend to see them as much in larger cities.

I had assumed, early on in this discussion, that the Silverado was a car. I am still not sure, I have never seen a picture of one.
I still do not understand why people choose to drive trucks when they could get a nice comfortable car with surround sound, good aircon, silent engine, and seats you can access without first embarking on a course of mountaineering, etc etc etc. Unless of course the purchasers of these things are the guys who make the excuse that they have just been swimming and the water was really cold!!!

If you don't know why people "choose" to drive a truck then you obviously don't know about the way of life of many people here nor the terrain that must be traversed. Without a pickup in the part of the country that I live in, a person would be left to walk to get to certain places, perhaps even to their house, having to contend with the occasional bear or mountain lion along the way. There is no way to pull a horse trailer with a couple of horses or a cattle trailer full of calves for the market with a Corolla. The reference to a small tool is very lame by the way.

No, the Silverado is also a pickup truck. It is the second most popular pickup in the world behind the F150.

Pickups again are found in more rural and suburban areas. They are used by farmers, contractors etc... people who need to haul equipment etc... around. Others use them to haul recreational vehicles (motorcross bikes etc...).

I personally drive an SUV. I do so because it would take two cars to haul four people with all their ski gear up to the mountain. It would take two cars to haul four people with all their camping/hiking gear up. etc...

Side note... the quiet engine, the aircon and surround sound are all found in both cars and trucks (unless you get a diesel engine). Personally it is far more of an inconvenience for me to get into and out of a car than it is in my truck. Though for a shorter person I can see your point.

It would appear that he didn't even know the F150 and Silverado were pickups. So I would say it is safe to assume he has little comprehension on why trucks are used. My guess is that he has lived in a large city (like his current Hong Kong) most of his life.

Right. You wouldn't be able to make it out of my driveway without 4 wheel drive and at least 14 inches of clearance during the winter months. A more self-aggrandizing pile of steaming ignorance than this post of yours may be impossible to find. I can almost see the scent lines.

Is America too poor to afford properly paved roads? Why do you choose to live with bears and mountain lions? Isnt that rather dangerous, not to mention inconvenient?
If you enjoy the discomforts of living with wild animals there are places in Africa where you might be as happy as a sandboy.
When I was a boy we had hedgehogs in our garden and the occasional fox. Later the cattle on the neighbouring farm would sometimes break down the fence and trample the lawn. We found no reason to own commercial vehicles. But, then, we swam in relatively warm water!

I've had a love/hate relationship with my 1989 Chevrolet Silverado for around 8 years now. It's undergone a rebuild and respray, has a typical crazy Yanky wallow to the ride, the steering is fragile and at worst lethal, the interior trim quality is poor and you have to keep all the joints greased or it sounds like a seriously squeaky bed ... it smokes on start up and the engine service light comes on if the fluid level slops on a corner. The model I drive is the 5.7 V8 and it is ... when all considered ... a petrol heads dream! I drove this car to Hamburg a couple of years ago and stuffed every Merc and BMW I came across. Mid range acceleration is 'awesome' and the top speed is scary! It will do 140mph with an eagerness to do considerably more. OK, so I tweaked the box and suspension and brakes, but it's reasonably stock ... it turns heads where ever it goes, whether that's London, Hamburg, Amsterdam or Chalfont St Giles and arrogant middle England hates it more than a refugee camp development on the village cricket pitch. You will get treated like a socially dysfunctional village idiot by huge swathes of the rurally challenged and Porsche / Bentley / Audi S8 and Mercedes drivers will all give you one of those down the nose looks of contempt ... HOWEVER ... it's more fun than French kissing Paris Hilton with a mouth full of Werther's Originals, curiously more sexy than Britt Ekland in The Wicker Man, more practical than a Sheraton sideboard and returns 30mpg on a long run! I use my Chevy every day and during a ride through Holland, had people wave at me with friendly faces (OK, we all know the Dutch are crazy).

It is the 'American' idea of true freedom that I do not understand. I don't think it is freedom to be afraid to walk the streets. I dont think it is freedom to live your lives in fear of attack by one or all of the following: Commies, tourists (terrorists), white people with guns, black people with guns, rapists, mountain lions, Mexicans, Aliens, Ruskies, Huskies, peruvians and penguins. I dont think you are free if you are internationally derided and warned not to travel to some parts of the world. It is not free to have to rely on motor cars to get a loaf of bread. It is not free to have to rely on the armed forces to ensure your safety.
You, I hope, have learned by now that you cannot invade countries and demand freedom at the point of a gun.
In reality, your comment is as foolish as anything I may have written in the years I have been posting. So you enjoy what you think is freedom and I will enjoy what I think is freedom.

A fearful person is never free so in that regard you are correct. But then again I am not afraid of anything, except an intrusive and limiting government. And, to me at least, that's what freedom is. Choice. People all over the world risk their lives daily for the choice America offers. I can live my life anyway I choose, so long as it does not interfere with anyone else and their ability to do the same.

Anyways, back to cars. For the money I'd much rather have a economical motorcycle (obviously a Harley) than a car.

I'd rather dump them both and, as they say here, take the No. 11 bus. (walk).
I used to like the Harley and there is little more satisfying than watching the 50 or 60 members of the local club roar past on a warm afternoon. However, One of our neighbours has recently acquired one and seems to enjoy using it to interfere with my freedom to enjoy a quiet (ish) day by the pool (warm). If he does it much more he might wake up to the surprise of having his exhaust pipe a couple of feet up his fat arse.
