Great Comedians of the past.

Mott the Hoople

Sweet Jane
Nichols and May are probably one of the most missed. They only worked together for four years but before they split for equally successful careers in screen writing and directing. They were the for runners of modern sketch/improvisation comedy.

Woody Allen;

Yes, most of us have seen his movies but Allen was making a living as a comedy writer from the time he was 17. In 1960 he started doing stand up comedy where he developed his now famous "nebbish" character. What made Woody Allen's standup unique was he emphasized monologues over telling jokes. He set the stage for other great comedians who adopted Allen's observational humor and writing skills, such as, Richard Pryor and George Carlin who ended up changing their routines from telling Borscht belt jokes to using monologues and social commentary and became legends.

Then there's Lenny. Probably not the greatest comedian ever but the man was fearless and breathtakingly honest. He took a hit for free speech rights when guys like Pryor and Carlin were too scared to. No greater free speech warrior than this man. Listen carefully to this little video and understand that back in 65 talking about red necks like this didn't end with them distastefully calling you a "liberal". They would have arrested you without cause, took you behind close doors and beat you to with in an inch of your life. Which they did to Lenny on several occasions. Press their racist asses to hard and they simply would have killed you.

I hate to make a martyr out of any man but Lenny was broken and died for telling truths that we would take for granted today.

Well you can't post a list of influential comedians with out Carlin's Seven Dirty Words You Can't Say on Television.

Name one other comedy routine that became a Supreme Court case.

Last week, I went to Phildelphia but it was closed.

What is the difference between you and your paramour? She, despite being a snoring boring uber-feminazi, can at least spell and piece a sentence together correctly whilst you are just boring and semi-literate.
