There's an element of risk in poker, but ultimately it is a sport of skill. Gambler's anonymous is not full of poker players, but gamblers who are incapable of controlling their betting. Poker is not a game of chance, it is a game of skill with an ELEMENT of chance, and necessary prowess of the body.
Gotta be able to bluff... If you can't control your body lying to strangers is difficult. Please explain this prowess of the body thing.
I forgive your ignorance, for you know not of what you speak.
Then why are there not more women poker players ?Gotta be able to bluff... If you can't control your body lying to strangers is difficult.
Any game where you don't even have to lift your ass out of a chair is not a sport!
Anything you can purchase in the game department of WalMart rather than at a Sporting Goods store is not really a "sport"...Is NasCar a sport?
And Not only do you have to have control when you bluff, you have to have control when you have a monnster hand, and you have to have the ability to remain focused and razor sharp for up to 24 hours at a time.

While it may be a diversion, a contest, a game, a skilled event, an one can even have tournaments, it is not a sport...
Ahhh... So Monopoly is a sport then. They have tournaments that can last more than 24 hours where people can win a large pot, you must remain focused at all times during the tourney and you can buy it at WalMart in the toy section...Incorrect.

Ahhh, but you are wrong. People play it in tournaments for rather large pots. However, the pot isn't what makes it a sport... If it were then gambling on horse racing (that is a sport but gambling on it isn't) would in itself be a sport. While the jockey and the horse are participating in a sport, gambling on it is not a sport...Nobody plays Monopoly for $12 Million. And It is a game, and a good one at that, but does not require the same physical abilities as sports, such as acute and intense physical control of the body.

C'mon man! Be reasonable! A car-seat is not a chair, and that car seat is flying around a track at 200mph, and the difference between life and death is measured in miliseconds and by presicion driving!

It has much the same requirements as Poker does for a "sport" endurance, people play it for large pots at tournaments that last over 24 hours and the fact that you can buy everything you need to play the game with others at the toy section of walmart doesn't preclude it being a "sport"... So, I can see no reason, using your definition, that Monopoly shouldn't be considered a sport.
