Gun crime has plunged, but Americans think it's up, says study

capitalism keeps people dumb. You are a capitalist. You are dumb to say what you have.

most countries that are in some vain capitalist societies are routinely among the smartest and most educated in the world. I don't believe you have any evidence to actually back this assertion up.

Bu.....Bu.....Bu....But if you ask some of your fellow conservatives on here gun deaths are rampant and rising! Gangs, literal gangs, of armed youth are roaming the streets of Chicago, Detroit, and NYC, mowing down the white folk even as we speak!!!!

(If you check Grind, you realize I've been saying this exact same thing - gun deaths are decreasing - for over a year)

no thanks to anything the gun grabbers have done. It blows my mind the cognitive dissonance you guys have. You look at any place in the country with high gun control and usually violence has increased, crime hasn't declined, and they are almost always, in every case, worse off than the areas with more guns. Restricting guns doesn't do shit. We have seen that, violence in general has gone down nearly 50% in the past years and we didn't need to ban or gravely restrict guns to pull that off. Restricting guns is nothing more than a disgusting, traitorous, ill-informed, knee jerk non-solution by those that support tyranny.

Shoot 'em with your guns, that will teach 'em

how about you actually try to contribute to a thread for a change? this is pretty remarkable evidence on the ignorance of the american people regarding this issue. Why do you continually close your eyes and put your fingers in your ears?

I did contribute to the thread and if I wish to be over the top like yourself, I can.

Gun ownership is also down, but you continue to ignore that correlation and especially in the age group that commits most violent crimes, but go ahead and continue to ignore that fact. I guess you do your own bit of fingers in the ears.

i'm having a hard time believing that gun ownership is down when so many guns are flying off the shelves. My guess is that with all the gun control talk coming from the democrats and republicans in government, people aren't willing to reveal that they are now new gun owners.

can you link us up to the data showing gun ownership is down?

Thats a misnomer. Gun ownership isn't down, it simply has kept pace with population growth. 1/3 of Americans own guns. That's roughly 105,000,000 million people.

I'm not in favor of restricting guns. I'm in favor of restricting guns to those who shouldn't have them.

I understand the concern demonstrated in the OP... however, if cancer deaths were to start to decline, would that mean we should then stop doing research on curing cancer? Are you all saying that finding a political method to further reduce gun crimes is no longer needed because the incidents of gun crime have gone down measurably in recent years? Fuck worrying about curing cancer... it's gone down some and that's good enough, ain't it?

Please mm.....lets not get into STRAWMAN bullshit everytime you're made aware of FACTS you don't care to hear.....it makes you look stupid and it implys
you're trying to pull a fast one because you think we're stupid.....

Gun crime is dropping for 2 decades....this proves all this idiotic and unconstitutional restrictions don't really matter......damn, jobs creation does more to lesson all crime than
any crazy "gun free zone" signs or restrictions that only effect law-abiding citizens....
Criminals don't give a shit about laws, is that so hard to understand ?

It is still only a third of the population as compared to in the past where 50% were gun owners. Crime also kept pace and as gun ownership went down crime also went down. The fact is fewer people own guns.

Gun ownership is DOWN ?.....We're been hearing in the news that gun sales have skyrocketed in last couple of years, stores are sold out, manufacturers can't
make enough to keep up with sales, ammunition is scarce and store stocks are depleted....

so where did you get your information that gun ownership is down....?....
is that another mediamatters headline or Rachael Maddow story ?

And it was probably 80 or 90 percent in 1776....so what ?....

You're using historical assumptions to arrive in that conclusion ?.....then I'm sure you're right to a degree.....as times have changed from 100 years ago, especially
economically, less people would see a need to own guns......self defense and sports would be the attraction now and its not an inexpensive sport, ...plus, the danger
of running afoul of the law in transportation of guns is something to worry about for law abiding citizens....
