Gun crime has plunged, but Americans think it's up, says study

I don't think there's sane person on this forum who thinks you should have a gun. Apparently the Texas militia feels the same way.
so you've joined the ranks of the galactically stupid like taichi and need to ignore the aspects of my life to make some sort of bullshit point.

I also don't see the need to have certain weapons intended to kill as many ppl as quick as possible.
how else are we supposed to be a well regulated militia?

rana, I will not shrug off the link you posted. I will take a more in depth look at it later. Thank you for contributing to the conversation, perhaps you made a good point.

Too many are clueless about the facts here, but I bet plenty could tell you who won American Idol last year.
It's because the news industry reports crimes hard, they make their money out of interest stories, and what generates more interest than horrible deaths? Telling people that crime is, and has steadily, been going down, isn't likely to make them watch the news in fear they're missing something vital.

Gun ownership is DOWN ?.....We're been hearing in the news that gun sales have skyrocketed in last couple of years, stores are sold out, manufacturers can't
make enough to keep up with sales, ammunition is scarce and store stocks are depleted....

so where did you get your information that gun ownership is down....?....
is that another mediamatters headline or Rachael Maddow story ?

Perhaps more guns are being sold to fewer people, rocket scientist?

5 yr old shot his baby sister with the rifle his NRA dad bought him!

Welcome back Dudo!

So now that gun deaths are only 11,000 per year, I guess we don't have to worry about them anymore, right? We don't need to discuss ways to end them?

And the continuing trend is downward which would indicate, to everyone who isn't a mouth breather, that the current POLICIES on guns are either working, or (and this is fucking crazy I know) that crime has a vastly different set of motivators other than guns. In either case, it effectively dispels the myth that gun control does anything at all.

Waaaait a second.....who said guns were a "motivator" of crime? They aren't a motivator....they are a tool. Having a gun makes it easier to commit a crime, just it makes it easier to kill game for a food source.

Motivators for crime? Poverty, desperation, addiction are the biggies.

No...gun deaths are around 30k/year....murders make up about 11k out of the 30k.

Dont like it? Dont read it. That should be easy enough even for you. Have a nice day.

democracy only works with a well informed populace. If we have so many retards that are mentally checking out, we do not have a democracy. We have ruling by feels. Rule by idiots, by the great unwashed masses. That is not a democracy, that is tyranny of the idiots holding us hostage.

You mean the "populace" that wanted background checks vs. the "populace" that follows Corporate interests such as Fox News and the NRA since '05 ?
