You can get an M1 and a 20-30-round mag.

M1 Carbines are better than Mini-14s.

The immediate question comes to mind ... how the hell does an ex-con on parole gets his hands on an assault weapon AND back up piece? Was that weapon formerly on the 1994 AWB list? Would a universal background check and registration of ALL weapons sales have prevented this?

More laws would not have prevented it. He was already in violation of the law when an ex con had an illegal weapon.

That statement is false.While the exact number is hard to quantify, multiple mass shootings have involved firearms obtained through private sales or gun shows, where background checks were not required under federal law.

With one exception, the weapons used in mass shootings were stolen.
That one exception is the Las Vegas shooter, who obtained his weapons through purchase at a gun store. He also passed the background check.

• Gun show loophole: Federal law does not require background checks for private sellers at gun shows. This gap has been documented by the ATF and Congressional Research Service.

The ATF doesn't even know how to load a gun. Argument from randU fallacy. The ATF itself is unconstitutional in it's attempts to ban and limit guns.

• Examples contradicting the claim:
  • 1999 Columbine High School shooting: Two of the four guns used were purchased at a gun show through private sellers without background checks.

Nope. All the guns were stolen.

• 2019 Odessa, Texas shooting: The shooter obtained his rifle via a private sale that bypassed a background check.

So? The seller was also convicted of selling guns without a license to sell guns. In other words, the shooter obtained the gun from another criminal.

Other cases: ATF investigations have linked firearms used in crimes to gun show transactions, though not all qualify as “mass shootings.”

You have to give it to someone who can make 300 yard shots with a fully automatic weapon. One needs intense training to do that - special forces - or FBI training....

A typical long range sniper uses a simple bolt action rifle. The reason is simple: no wasted energy on cycling the mechanism as an automatic or semiautomatic would.
