When the Trayvon Martin case first started garnering national attention, there were many that thought they knew who George Zimmerman was: an overzealous racist with a vendetta against young black men who was on a mission to assert power with his gun. But then little details started emerging, such as pictures of Zimmerman’s bloody head that could bolster his self-defense claim; CNN even backtracked and said the tape it once suggested showed Zimmerman uttering a racist slur was actually him most likely saying it was “cold.”

And now, Reuters has put together a detailed profile of Zimmerman that seems to suggest he was a concerned citizen that was trying to help fix his community and those in it reeling from recent crime. He was a compassionate neighbor, it seems, not a lunatic with a gun.

He was raised in a racially integrated household and himself has black roots through an Afro-Peruvian great-grandfather - the father of the maternal grandmother who helped raise him.

They want to kill one of their own. Classic

The really sad apart about this entire thing; is that instead of people coming together and try to figure out how to make sure a situation like this doesn't occur again, to many just wanted Zimmerman to "pay" for this.
No matter how the trial comes out, even if there is a trial, will not help in any way and you can pretty much count on something similar happening.

Many years ago; therer was an incident where a young black man was killed and dumped on this family's doorstep.
At this time, there were still a lot of people (black and white) who practiced segregation.
When this young man was murdered, the entire community came together and worked toward finding who was guilty.
The family was pretty poor and donations came in from all over town and made sure there was a proper funeral and burial.
The local Baptist church was filled to overflowing with blacks, whites, and hispanic families.
Food and money were given to the family, so they didn't have to worry during this disaster.

It was finally discovered, through the investigation and talking to witnesses, that two young white men, who were home on leave from the Army, had offered the dead young man a ride and then they both murdered him.
Not one WHITE person said a word about how the murdered young man must have done something.
People of all colors made sure the murdered man's family had transportation to all of the Court precedings and gave as much comfort as they could.
The two killers were found guilty; but I don't remember what the sentence was.

The families of the two killers, eventually moved out of town, for reasons of their own.

As sad as the situation was; it created an atmosphere that started to break down some of the long held traditions, feelings, and attitudes.

To this day; if the subject comes up, people who lived here at that time still talk about how it affected the entire community.

There are parts of this crime that I have left out; because they're difficult to think about, let alone type out.
 
Does this mean the Black Panthers and at least 90% of the Left were just packed full of shit? I'm stunned! Just fucking STUNNED!

GZ one of their own??? Just because you have a black friend or a 1/2 black relative somewhere down your ancestry line, does NOT mean you cannot be a racist! Though I think the problem is not that he was a racist but that he was racial profiling.

GZ is lucky I am not the prosecutor or he would be in deep dudu.

OK so 8 burglaries were reported and many more suspicious characters that were "casing" the homes. Several of which were black.

OH OK! That settles it! Silly me! Now I understand why Zimmerman shot an unarmed black person taking skittles home to his little brother(NOTE MASSIVE SARCASM)!

It seems he had an obsession with young black males! I have much more info but have to wait until I can access it! I also notice someone edited out key parts of the zimmerman/Trayvon wikipedia page. Hmmmmmmmmmm

In August 2011, he called to report a black male in a tank top and shorts acting suspicious near the development's back entrance. "[Complainant] believes [subject] is involved in recent S-21s"—break-ins—"in the neighborhood," the call log states. The suspect, Zimmerman told the dispatcher, fit a recent description given out by law enforcement officers.

Three days later, he called to report two black teens in the same area, for the same reason. "[Juveniles] are the subjs who have been [burglarizing] in this area," he told the dispatcher.

On April 22, 2011, Zimmerman called to report a black male about “7-9” years old, four feet tall, with a “skinny build” and short black hair. There is no indication in the police report of the reason for Zimmerman’s suspicion of the boy.

SERIOUSLY!!! Why didn't they take a fucking blood test of GZ! Sounds like he is sniffing the cocaine! Maybe that's why he broke! Maybe him and his neighbors do rails!

For once I agree with you and was waiting for the verdict before I brought it up. The main issue is that laws have to change so these things don't happen again!

But the gun lobbyists pay good money to make sure everyone has the right to buy and carry their arms in public!!! Lets bring back the good ole wild west!

The right to carry is not what created or caused this situation.
If Zimmerman had been carrying a knife, had used it to defend himself, and Martin ended up dead; would you now be screaming about banning knives?

Who knows! If she had pulled out her gun and missed she would have been dead! Your answer is that everyone be allowed to carry a gun in public? That would be great! Every argument could turn into a gun fight. Heck like I said! We can have mass shoot outs in the streets! Who needs the police! Note massive sarcasm!!!!

We wont even need to go to the movies! We could just watch the news! It would be riddled with massacres!

I think the better idea would be to address why people are all of a sudden going cuckoo in America and going on shooting rampages.

Ah the west, where crime was rare. Can you care to explain how crime has been in decline while firearms ownership and rights have expanded? Even you Canadians have done away with the long gun registry, because its pointless.

I'll address each of your FEARS in order:
1. Since you started the IF game; then maybe IF she had pulled her gun and shot the criminal, many people would still be alive.
2. You're right. I believe that every law abiding citizen should be able carry a firearm in public.
3. But "every argument" hasn't turned into a gun fight; so this is just you being a whimpering fool.
4. Since many States have Open carry or CCW, why hasn't your FEAR come to pass? I'ts because it's just you crying about something that you FEAR. Grow up, it might help.
5. It hasn't happened yet and this is just you being a whiney scared little boy.
6. People are not "suddenly" going cuckoo in America and going on shooting rampages.

Now that your FEARS have been addressed; would you care to cry about something that is actually occuring? :)

Crime was rare?? And proof to back that up? I'm going to burn all those western movies I have of bank robberies and hangings and killings and everything. Its all lies. Note sarcasm.

I think anyone that believes that crime is on the decline is only fooling themselves. Its just more organized. There are definitely more homicides with guns these days. Especially among the black youths. They are doing most of the dirty work.

If anything? I think crimes are increasing. Why?..... Simple. All the drugs on the streets that were rare back then. More greed, resulting in more corruption. Population growth. Population density. Secularism and the moral decline of North America.

I agree, that is one of the lesser issues. Though I think it was part of the problem and the STAND YOUR GROUND law has to be clarified. Also as a neighborhood WATCHMAN, he shouldn't be patrolling the streets armed unless he has been trained to do so!

It seems like you're saying that if we eliminated the greedy, drug using, black youth; that we could eliminate the majority of the crime problem.

That's a terrible thing for you to say. :(
