Have You ever helped a stranger in a Medical Emergency??

Just this morning, on my jog @ 0430, I found a man on the side of the road bleeding a lot....I freaked out. Called the locals who arrived at exactly 34 mins after and rendered vital assistance. I can't stop thinking about this...

I'm like "Hold on Friend...they're on their way" and he was just shaking and telling me not to leave him there.

Has anyone here ever had that experience?

Apparently the Man had being lying where I found him the whole night. EMT stabilized him and he was medi-Vacced by a chopper. That was awesome to watch.

Apparently the Guy was hijacked and someone shot him for some reason...WTF is wrong with Humanity?

Several times in civilian life.

Much more than that in the military. Most of us who spent several hitches probably did.
You are a soldier...After this I wished that I had that experience. I just can't stop thinking about that man. Why would anyone want to do that sort of thing to him? The paramedics were great... Calm and collected and knew what to do...like this relief that eventually just rolled in with wailing sirens.

I'm thinking, they did this to this man for a car, cash and whatever...That was his expendable worth to him/them.

Good for you. You may have saved his life. Why was he bleeding? Had he been hit by a car? Shot? Did you do any first aid other than calling 911?

I'm a retired nurse and have dealt with emergencies like this. It's always great when a non-medical person steps in to help. Thank you.

After the meds and law-enforcement arrived I called the Local Priest...who arrived after all that. Father Mike got the man's id from the locals and contacted his Fam. Monday I have to make a witness statement.

Some people are assholes. Sad.

It's good that you were there to help.

No, I did none of this. I was freaked-out. I run with my dogs every morning. Running up to this on my route it looked like a lump of clothes someone had left on the side of the road...the dogs went crazy as we got closer...then all the blood.

And the man was like coughing...gurgling and grey looking. He could have been hit by a car....although the one paramedic found spare car keys in his pocket when looking for ID.

Lesser people would have crossed the street and kept jogging. Agreed. I love the tech, a cross between a Star Trek communicator and tricorder.
Ya ... Just a call and hopefully that man will be alright...

Father Mike says he is not doing well, and is with him at the Hospital right now. His Fam is en-route. Just a Man lying on the side of the road today.

I can't fathom. To the nurse and soldier here, I hope you teach people what to do in situations like this.

Awful

Given his condition you did exactly right. You didn't try to move him or get him to get up. You didn't touch his wound(s) because you haven't been trained (at least that you've said) in first aid. You got him help and you stayed with him until help came. PLUS -- you called the Father who was able to provide comfort and also to bring his family together. You done good.

Basic first aid is often included in HS programs...as it should be. https://cpr.heart.org/en/courses/cpr-in-schools-first-aid

I had discharged before this incident.

You did exactly right.

(1) You stayed with him
(2) You assured him that he would be alright.
(3) You called for help
(4) Then you kept reassuring him you would not leave him.

Yes, many people can be so cruel.
