Hello Grugore,
Definition of socialism. 1 : any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.
How does this, in any way, describe America?
If it doesn't describe America then what's the problem?
But I think it kind of does describe America. And I still don't see a problem with that. Actually, I think this should be expanded to achieve the proper balance of capitalism and socialism.
I am a strong proponent of using government for needs, and a well regulated capitalist market for wants. Government should own and run health care, but at least there should be a Single Payer insurance system at the very least. Medicare-For-All is a good place to begin.
The only product I can think of that I would like to government to own production of might be prescription drugs, because that is not a true capitalist market, and the prices have become unworkably high. Those people are getting filthy rich as others die for inability to buy drugs. Seniors choosing between medicine and heat is a failure of our system.
I do favor collective ownership of corporations, but then, we sort of have that already with publicly owned corporations.
I am in favor of worker cooperatives, where the workers own the company they work for, and make the decisions affecting their lives. But those companies should compete in the open market for share, as they do already.
