That's because the U.S. has refineries set up specifically for Venezuelan oil as they traded for decades symbiotically.

Not quite.

Venezuelan oil is often sour crude (this means a high sulfur impurity). Other sour crude is obtained in Canada and Mexico.
It is a more challenging refining process, but it works, making these sources more valuable.

These refineries weren't built just for Venezuelan oil.

Like you, I know what I pay for gasoline, and I know that I paid considerably less for gasoline during Trump's first term (and his second term is shaping up to be much of the same) than I paid during the Autopen years.

Apparently, having Trump as President means cheaper gas prices, a secure national border (and deportations of illegal alien invaders), less domestic crime, and respect on the global stage. I don't think that being a "Trumpper" is necessary to be generally pleased with much of what Trump has accomplished.

We're still at $4.50 here, but that's because of hefty taxes on gasoline in this State, and particularly in this county.
I can get it for $3.30, but I have to drive out of the county to get it.

Washington refineries also supply all of Oregon, since Oregon has no refining capacity at all.

Refineries are leaving the SDTC. It's gonna get REAL expensive for gasoline there!
When Phillips Petroleum leaves, it will also shut down the aviation pipeline to LAX (no fuel for those jets!), and the pipeline supplying the nearby port of L.A. (no more cargo ships!).

Further, Newsom still wants to ban diesel fuel (no semi-trucks or trains!...no one supplying Amazon warehouses!).

I guess Newsom causing the shutdown of most electrical generating capacity and destroying water collection systems wasn't enough damage!
